# [[Algorithms of thought]]
An algorithm of thought describes how to make a decision using a systematic method that can be applied to any concept or problem.
Algorithms are different from mental models in that mental models are *des*criptive and algorithms of thought are *pro*scriptive: one seeks to describe, and the other seeks to outline actions to take.
