%% date:: [[2022-08-14]] %% # [[Content Strategy]] What should you make content about? What's your niche? ## Start with what you want to do Start with the topics you're most interested in. If you're looking at content creation as a hobby, this might matter more than anything else. Even if you're more on the business side of the scale, acknowledging your interests and strengths is a realistic way to begin planning your content. Regardless of whether this is a hobby or a business, you'll want to find the intersection of what you want to do and what your audience wants to see. Here are some questions you can ask yourself: [^ptya] - What am I good at? - What would others say I'm good at, that I might not otherwise s ay about myself? - What do I enjoy? - What industries/groups am I part of? - What do I wish I had known X years ago that I could help people with now? Spend some time writing down 10 things you want to create content about. ## Do [[Competitive research]] What are others in your industry doing, and how could you stand out or do better? Pay attention to their niches and what *else* they make content about. - Who are the biggest names in my space? - What topics do they make content about? - What are the most common questions that their audience asks them? - What are your competitors' [[Value Propositions]]? What could yours be? Spend some time writing down 10 things competitors are making content about. ## [[Creating customer personas|Know your audience]] Nail down who your target audience is, and then think about what kinds of topics they are interested in, or what types of content they are looking for. - What are their biggest challenges? - What would they get out of your content? - What other hobbies or interests do they have, and could you relate these to your niche? - What apps do they use? - What types of books do they read? Spend some time writing down 10 things your target audience (or people you know) are searching for or want to hear from you. ## Create content buckets Once you've gone through the previous three steps, combine the topics you came up with, preferring those that appeared in more than one of the lists. Come up with about three main content buckets, each one with a few sub-areas. For example: ``` Content bucket: Happiness - Minimalism - Health - Career advice ``` [^ptya]: Abdaal, A.
