# [[Create a shot list]]
After you've [[Scripting for video|written your script]], whether it's a full one or an outline, go the next step and also create a shot list.
A shot list identifies the scenes in your script and reorders them based on *location*, not chronological order. Ordering based on location is more efficient because setting up once per place cuts down on unnecessary time.
Creating a shot list has a few advantages:
- It helps you plan for each location accordingly. Perhaps it doesn't matter what time you film in your home office, but it may matter if you need to film a busy intersection in town.
- It is a prerequisite for dividing the work between multiple videographers or video editors.
- It lets you group non-video stuff into the same location, such as taking thumbnail photos after your gear is already set up.
You can also be specific about the kind of shot you need. Here's an example:
```
- Bedroom
- [ ] A Roll over head with Matt in bed
- [ ] Matt rolling out of bed
- Bathroom
- [ ] Close Up: Matt brushing teeth
- [ ] Wide: Matt entering shower
```
