- A cross-functional team is a group of people with different areas of expertise working toward a common goal. Their experiences, knowledge, and backgrounds should ideally be suffficiently different as to enable each member to fulfill unique roles but also sufficiently overlapping for redundancy.
- In [[Agile]] methodologies like [[Shape Up]], a cross-functional team is crucial to delivering software quality. This new type of team is in direct contrast to the siloed approach of a team being made up of people fulfilling the same function, such that a team of developers would need to reach out to a team of testers, etc., to work on a project that requires all these functions.
