Having a plan for how your Developer Advocacy career will end gives you the opportunity to choose work and positions that take you closer to that end goal.
Developer Advocacy is an interdisciplinary field, which means that we have a lot of options when we think about where to take our career next. [^britton] Some paths that Developer Advocates go down are:
- Product
- Engineering
- Marketing
- Sales
- entrepreneurship
Developer Advocates often excel in situations where they can wear multiple hats.
## General tips
- Take something with you when you leave.
- Take notes, especially on people. Consider maintaining a [[Customer Relationship Manager|CRM]].
- Prefer activities that have multiple uses.

- Partner with other teams to learn a new skill.
- Keep a list of people you'd like to work with in the future.
