Expressing [[Doubt]] requires respect for the complexity of a system. Raising questions about how something might be wrong shows that the outcome matters to you.
In [[Software Testing]] and [[Site Reliability Engineering]], doubt spurs the investigation of scenarios that might cause a system to fail-- but for the purpose of putting it back together better and making it more [[Resiliency|resilient]].
In [[Hegelian Dialectic]], doubt expressed through the formulation of an antithetical statement is used as a stepping stone to synthesis. You can't arrive at a middle ground if you don't first fully identify and express opposing views.
In [[Zen Buddhism]], [[The Great Doubt]] ([[Nishitani Keiji]]) is a moment where absolute nothingness must be confronted. Going through the doubt and coming out the other side is the path of individuation.
[[Ritual Dissent]] is a way to add structure to doubt and make it productive. Ritual dissent encourages systematic and blameless doubt for the purpose of forging an idea to make it stronger.
