# [[Fast Thinking]]
*Fast thinking* is the type of [[Cognition]] that occurs instantaneously and automatically as a result of informed intuition. It is what [[Daniel Kahneman]] calls "System 1" thinking in his book [[Thinking, Fast and Slow - summary]].
Fast thinking is the opposite of [[Slow Thinking]].
Fast thinking excels at [[Heuristics]] that are difficult to teach and can involve flashes of intuition that can only be built up over time. However, it is prone to [[Cognitive Biases]].
