Final Cut Pro X
## Using FCPX
### How to blur part of a video
- Make a copy of the clip you want to blur, and drag it on top of the original clip.
- Drag the volume down on the copied clip.
- Apply the Censor, Blur, or Pixelate effect on the copied clip.
- Adjust the position of the effect on the copied clip, covering larger than the area you actually want to blur.
- Crop the copied clip so that the only thing visible is the blurred part, and the rest of the background is showing what's on the original clip (which is not blurred). [^zollotech]
### How to highlight part of a video [^SergeM]
This is how to spotlight one part of a video and dim the rest.

- Add a black Solid element on top of the video or image.
- From video effects, add a shape mask on top of the Solid.
- Tick the "Reverse Mask" option so that the shape highlights instead of dims.
- Modify the shape of the mask as needed.
