# [[Full script or talking points]]
You can create great videos with either, but they're different ways of working.
### Full script
A full script involves writing down exactly what you're going to say in the video. Below are some points to keep in mind if you choose to go down this route.
- If you're going to be on camera (A-roll), consider investing in a [[Teleprompter]]. I use a [TeleprompterPAD iLight Pro 10"](https://amzn.to/2TQA3sD) with my tablet.
- Write casual phrases into your script to make it sound more natural. Write the way you speak.
- One of the advantages of having a script beforehand is that you can ask others to review it. When possible, have someone check to see whether your script "sounds" natural.
- For a 3-minute video, aim for 300 words. For a 10-minute video, aim for 1000 words. [^davella]

> 1. A-roll
> 2. B-roll
> 3. Graphics

> A good script should identify which of these three blocks a specific section relates to.
Here's an example of a part of a script that [[Matt D'Avella]] wrote: [^davella]

#### Best for
- Videos about sensitive subjects (legal, pricing, acquisitions)
- Screen recordings that don't include A-roll
- Short, marketing-focused tutorial videos
- People who aren't great at riffing on camera
### Talking points
Using talking points is my preferred method of scripting, because it's more natural and takes less time to script. Below are some tips to keep in mind if you choose this approach:
- You're going to end up with more footage than the previous approach. Come up with a way to reduce your work in post ([[Video Editing]]), such as:
- Always using the last take (my preferred method)
- Adding a visual or auditory marker when you don't want to use a take (clap or hold your hands up in an X when you make a mistake)
- Use tools like [Descript](https://descript.com) to edit your A-roll faster
- Use bullet points, rather than full sentences
- Consider using a [[Teleprompter]] anyway, even with bullet points
#### Best for
- Talking heads videos
- Mixed-purpose videos (for example, videos that need to be educational AND entertaining)
- YouTube
- Conversations between multiple people
- Livestreams
