# [[Hegelian Dialectic]]
Hegelian Dialectic is a way of understanding and explaining a premise or idea by attacking it with counter-arguments or opposing ideas. This is close to the idea of [[Steel man arguments|Steel manning]] in that the intention is to strengthen the validity of the original premise by showing how it can stand up to criticism.
Hegelian Dialectic involves three phases:
- *Thesis*: Explaining what is meant by the idea.
- *Antithesis*: Discussing arguments that oppose the idea.
- *Synthesis*: Reconciling the two to create a stronger foundational theory.
