# [[How to optimize recorded video for streaming]]

When you have a recorded video and you want to use something like [[Streamyard]] to "livestream" it, you may find that the service rejects your upload because it's not in the right format. Here's a format that works:
- 1080p (many platforms don't allow 4k)
- `.mp4` file extension
- Bitrate of <10 Kbps.
You can use an editing tool to change the first two, but the bitrate may require a free app called [[Handbrake]]. ([[Compressor]] is a paid alternative that works well with [[Final Cut Pro X]].) In Handbrake, you can change the bitrate by going to the Video tab, making sure `H.264` is selected as the Video Encoder, and selecting `Constant Quality` with a setting of `RF 23`.
