# [[Instant queries in LogQL]]

An instant query in [[Grafana Loki|Loki]]'s [[LogQL]] is a query that is evaluated at a single moment of time (such as `now`).
Whether a query is instant or [[Range queries in LogQL|range]] can be determined in:
- the [[Grafana]] UI
- [[LogCLI]] using commands
- The [[Loki API]], by sending requests to the endpoint `/loki/api/v1/query`
Both [[Log queries in Loki|log queries]] and [[Metric queries in Loki|metric queries]] can be instant.
When log queries are made instant, the log query returns the last log that meets the criteria of the query.
When metric queries are made instant, they return [[Instant vectors in LogQL|instant vectors]] that represent the current value.
