MariaDB is an [[Open source]] [[Database]] made by the creators of [[MySQL]].
## Installation
To install MariaDB, run this command on [[Linux]]:
```bash
apt-get install nginx mariadb-server -y
```
Then, start MariaDB and (optionally) enable it on boot:
```bash
systemctl start mariadb
systemctl enable mariadb
```
Use this wizard and follow the prompts to finish installation and setup:
```bash
mysql_secure_installation
```
## Usage
### Log in
Log in to the DB for the first time:
```bash
mysql -u root -p
```
### Create your first table
Run this command while logged into MariaDB on the command line:
```bash
CREATE DATABASE dbname DEFAULT CHARACTER SET UTF8 COLLATE utf8_unicode_ci;
CREATE USER 'yourusername'@'localhost' IDENTIFIED BY 'yourpassword';
GRANT ALL PRIVILEGES ON dbname.* TO 'yourusername'@'localhost' IDENTIFIED BY 'yourpassword' WITH GRANT OPTION;
FLUSH PRIVILEGES;
EXIT;
```
Make sure you change the following values as appropriate:
- `dbname`
- `yourusername`
- `yourpassword`
