Olhāo is a city in [[The Algarve]] in [[Portugal]]. It is near [[Faro]] the city, but it is in Faro the district. Very multicultural because there are a lot of expats. It's one of the "rougher" or not as clean-cut areas in the Algarve, and is more authentic. [^algarveaddicts] It's a big source of fresh fish.
## Population
(As of 2011)
Total: 45,396
Density: 350/km2 (900/sq mi) [^wiki]
## Impressions
Olhāo has WAY fewer expats/tourists than other cities we've visited in [[The Algarve]], probably because it doesn't have a beach. It has a harbourfront, where lots of boats docked, but you have to take a ferry to nearby islands to get to the beach. This means that the tourists that come don't stay very long in Olhāo itself.
It's a mix of a nice, walkable, Moorish city with cute little houses and winding roads; and a more modern resort-like area with condiminium apartments and swimming pools.
