- "Your brain is a dumbass, and your future self is a dumbass. Don't just write down a term and think "I'm sure I'll remember this and know what I was thinking later". You won't. So do yourself a favor and spend some time to flesh it out and spell things out for your stupid future self."
- We generally overcommunicate when we're speaking to others in situations where it's too easy to misunderstand each other, such as in remote working situations. At [[Flood (company)]], we try to make it a point to be as clear and concise as possible in our communication. We know that the other person could see our message several hours later, out of context, or while his kids are screaming in the background. It's easy to miss nuances or sarcasm in written text, so overcommunicating helps make sure everyone's on the same page despite drastically different situations.
What we often don't realize is that this need to overcommunicate is useful when talking to our future selves, too! Our future selves are different people entirely, with potentially different circumstances, so we can't assume we will understand then what we write __now__. This is why we need to flesh out ideas a bit more and explain exactly what we mean, even when we're just talking to ourselves.
