SWB stands for Shiny White Box, the name of the company, and their Audio Capture tool is a paid tool that allows you to record any sound you hear being played locally. This could include voices from a video conference, sound from a YouTube video, or music from Spotify, for example.
It is a paid app, but it's worth it because it works. :)
## Setup
After installing it, create a new audio device in "Audio Midi Setup" (macOS):

Add outputs you typically use, and include SWB Audio Capture.
Now you have a capture device that will simultaneously output to your headphones AND to the capture device.
To record a conversation in Zoom, for example, select `OBS computer audio capture` (or the name you selected for the new audio device you set up in the previous step) as the output for sound. You should hear the sound in all the devices selected, including your headphones.
Now, using your recording software (such as [[OBS]]), select SWB Audio Capture as your *input*.
Make sure to get people's permission before you record Zoom calls!
## Troubleshooting
### Announcement plays regularly in the recording
If you hear an announcement similar to "SWB Audio Capture device not recognized", that means you either haven't paid for the device, or the app is not running. The app needs to be running before you can record without that announcement every 10 minutes.
