# [[Service Level Agreement (SLA)]]
SLAs are test criteria that exist as a guarantee to users of how an application will perform. They set expectations for the quality, reliability, or stability that give potential or current customers a degree of assurance and confidence in the application.
An example of as common SLA is one that guarantees an uptime of 99.99%, which is a promise that an application will remain online, available, and operational at least 99.99% of the time. SLAs are often contractual, and as such, there can sometimes be significant costs involved when SLAs are not met.
