# [[Swedish (language)]]
## Gender
Swedish has two genders, common and neuter. However, unlike many languages, this distinction is usually made based on the *indefinite* article (a/an) rather than the definite article (the).
*Ett* words: äpple, barn, brev, språk, företag
*En* words: katt, filosofi, flicka, man
Nouns must agree with adjectives that refer to them.
