# [[Viewing a PR locally in Git]]

The situation: someone else has created a [[Pull Request|PR]] on a repository and you want to see their changes locally.
First, `cd` to the cloned repository directory and pull down the latest changes to your local machine with `git pull` or `git fetch`.
Then, fetch the reference to the PR:
```shell
git fetch origin pull/ID/head:BRANCH_NAME
```
Replace `ID` with the PR number and `BRANCH_NAME` with the name of the branch that the PR was made with. This will also create a new local branch with the same name.
You'll then be able to see their changes locally. If you make changes and commit to that branch, [[GitHub]] will automatically assign them to the PR.

> If your remote repository is on GitHub, You can also use [[GitHub CLI]] for a more intuitive syntax:
> `gh pr checkout ID` does the same thing. Replace `ID` with the number of the pull request.
