World-building is the process of creating a fictional setting that is rich in detail and exists beyond the purview of the characters in it.
## Techniques
### Spiral campaign development
Flesh out a small area where the characters start. As they move throughout your world, follow them and add more and more details, growing the scope of your campaign with them until the whole world is built out.
### Truths and fronts
Come up with six truths in your world that separate it from other worlds, and three fronts or activities that key players in your world will attempt throughout the story.
## Non-core [[Dungeons & Dragons|D&D]] campaign settings
