Unique note creator is a [[Core plugins|core plugin]] that creates notes with filenames according to the specified format. Usually, these titles include the date and time so as to keep each filename different from others. This plugin is disabled by default. ## Settings Enable Unique note creator. Go to Settings > Unique note creator. ![[unique-note-settings.png]] In *New file location*, select the folder path where you want to create notes. You can add a [[Templates|template]] that is automatically applied to every note once created. The *Unique prefix format* field is where you can determine what the filename of the unique note should look like. You can leave this blank to use the default, which is the date and time (to the minute). ## Creating a new note In the [[The Obsidian UI and settings#The toolbar|toolbar]], click on the unique note icon: ![[ui-unique-note-creator-icon.png]] The plugin creates a new note based on your settings. ## Use cases for unique note creator The main use case for this plugin is to replicate a [Zettelkasten](https://zettelkasten.com/)-like system where every note is titled in the same format. However, that system evolved from a physical slip-box into which index cards were kept. Since Obsidian is digital and does not allow you to create two notes in the same location and with the same title anyway, all notes are unique. Therefore, I would only enable and use this plugin in the very specific circumstance of already having notes in the timestamped format.
