Folders are the traditional way of organizing your notes, and they work like buckets that contain your notes. You can also have *nested* folders, where sub-folders are put into folders. Folders in Obsidian map directly to folders on your local file system. > [!warning] Always move and rename folders and files in Obsidian > When you rename and move files and folders in your local file system, links are not updated. > > When you rename them in Obsidian, Obsidian automatically updates all links to point to the new location or name of the files. This is the best way to prevent broken links. You can create a new folder by opening [[Files]] and clicking on the *New folder* icon. ## Related - [[Ways to organize your notes in Obsidian]] - [[obsidian-playbook/Obsidian Workflows/Restructuring and organizing your vault]]
