Six Thinking Hats is a book by Edward de Bono [^main] where he posits that there are six types of thinking, which he describes and delineates by "hat":
- **Blue**: metacognition or how to think
- **White**: gathering facts
- **Red**: Emotions and gut instincts
- **Black**: Criticism
- **Yellow**: Positive feedback and answers to problems
- **Green**: Blue sky thinking and creative ideas
## Why hats?
- They're easy to take on and off.
- It's easy to differentiate between hats.
- There's a connotation of a hat being part of a costume rather than an integral part of a person.
