Author: Pat Flynn [[readwise/Books/Superfans|My highlights]]. A [[Superfans|superfan]] is a follower of a brand (whether a person or a company) who has formed such a connection with it that they invest significant personal resources (time, money, effort) into using and promoting its work and products. A superfan is the highest level of a follower or user. ## [[Audience engagement levels]] - *Casual Audience*: They have heard of you and might have consumed your content because it was useful, but they don't have a connection to you. - *Active Audience*: They know who you are, and when you come up with something new, they decide whether or not to engage. - *Connected Community*: They engage with you most of the time, and may talk about you sometimes. - *Superfans*: They are so enthusiastic about you that they have put significant chunks of their own energy into spreading the news about you. Your goal is to move people up, but *also to maintain superfans*, because you don't want to lose that highly passionate crowd. ## How to get people to climb levels - Listen to your audience (or would-be audience) to find out what their problems are. [[Creating customer personas]] - Participate in online conversations that don't relate back to you. Listen to what people's pain points are. - Pay attention to the language people use, and [[Mirroring|mirror]] them in _your_ content. - [[Value Propositions|Provide value]] in the fastest amount of time possible, by solving their problems and not asking for much in return. - Start to add your personality to the mix. Be a little more casual, and mention interesting personal details every now and then. [[The basis of anti-marketing is authenticity]] - Post short stories or tweets about your life. - Document testimonials from people who have used your product and have gotten value out of it. - Encourage engagement with your brand. - Engage with everyone who reaches out to you. (if you can) [[Don't leave a hand unshaken]] - [[Community building]] - Solicit engagement on your content: "In the comments below, tell us how you ____." - Come up with a challenge that your audience can do. - [[Working with the garage door up|Work with the garage door up]] - Share what you're working on. - Show the people behind the brand. - Foster a sense of community identity. - Give your community a name to rally behind. - Create swag. - Create your first meetup. - Feature community members who can tell their stories of how you helped them. - Create a VIP experience - Send video messages - Brainstorm how to delight your VIPs - Create a platinum access experience. ## Citation ``` [^flynn]: Flynn, P.
