Week in the Life of a Developer Advocate 2. What does a Developer Advocate do? | Week in the life 3. Work week in the life of a Developer Advocate (Performance Testing) ## What value do viewers get? ## Hook > So you're a developer, or, in my case, a tester, and maybe you've realized you spend more time explaining why you do the job a certain way rather than doing the job itself. Explaining the principles of clean code. Explaining why there's no golden number for response time. At some point, you may begin to wonder: is being a developer, or a tester, the way I can add the most value? In my case, the answer was no. And that's how I found Developer Advocacy. In this video, I'm going to talk a bit about what that is and then show you a week in my life. ## Structure - Disclaimer: I'm new to this - What is a Developer Advocate? - What do I do as a Developer Advocate? - Performance Testing Advocate - Community: presentations, k6 Office Hours - Content: videos, some blog posts, workshop - Product: participate in project cycles - In all of this, advocate FOR developers (or testers in my case) - Friday - Filmed new ending for video #1 Figured out integration options Did k6 Office Hours Prepared for Clubhouse talk Participated in customer demo - Saturday - Did post-production for k6 Office Hours Talked at a Clubhouse meetup - Sunday - Wrote (team profile) blog post #1 Wrote talking points for Racket Started writing blog post #2 - Monday - Edited video #1 Created thumbnail, description Scheduled video #1 - Tuesday - Created slides for presentation Played with Prometheus and Grafana for webinar Had a virtual coffee with colleagues Finished writing blog post #2 - Wednesday - Went to four meetings Caught up on emails, Slack, and social media (last night) Wrote blog post #3 - Thursday - Scripted and filmed videos #2 and #3 Started editing video #2 Talked to a potential guest on livestream - Why do I like it? ``` (Video #1) Monitoring your k6 load test: How to install Grafana and Prometheus on a Kubernetes cluster: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GL2v81xYuAQ (Blog post #1) Grafana Labs team profile blog post: https://grafana.com/blog/2021/08/13/meet-the-grafana-labs-team-nicole-van-der-hoeven-a-developer-advocate-who-does-performance-testing-at-k6/ How we work at k6 - building software & working remotely with CTO Pawel Suwala (k6 Office Hours #23) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=95PP2zwMlc0 Clubhouse: Realistic load testing: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-hBVZqNJ4_A (Blog post #2): How I Use Obsidian for D&D - Player's Edition: https://nicolevanderhoeven.com/blog/20210809-dnd-obsidian-player/ (Webinar): Intro to load testing with k6 and Grafana: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tFsIgbqXbxM (Blog post #3): The easiest way to sync Kindle highlights to Obsidian: Readwise to Obsidian Redux: https://nicolevanderhoeven.com/blog/20210810-readwise-to-obsidian-redux/ (Video #2): How to integrate k6 and Grafana for load testing and observability: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GbYE4ZEUElQ (Video #3): How to install and use the k6 Cloud Grafana data source plugin: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q2oihIg9Zjg (Presentation): Chaos testing with k6, Prometheus, and Grafana (Schrödinger's Pokémon) for TestCon Europe 2021: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2QHs_HEX7r0 ("Potential" guest on livestream) How to do Continuous Performance Testing with Lee Barnes (k6 Office Hours #26): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5pd0G-jBOTo ``` For blog: - Videos: 1 published, 2 filmed - Livestream: 1 - Talks: 1 given, 2 worked on - Blog posts: 3 written, 1 published - Meetings: 7; 2 external ## Related videos and resources ## Pre-production - [x] Take a thumbnail photo and create one for YouTube (1280 x 720). - [x] Add description. - [x] Include the title and any keywords in the first few sentences, but in a natural way. - [x] Add related videos and resources as links. - [x] Add end screen. - [x] Add cards if necessary. - [x] Add video to relevant playlist(s), or create a playlist if necessary. - [x] Create captions using Descript or using the script, then edit them. - [x] Add chapters for YouTube if longer than 5 minutes. - [x] Schedule on YouTube. ## Post-production - [ ] Promote on personal social media. - [ ] Twitter - [ ] LinkedIn - [ ] Create a blog post on [nicolevdh.com](http://nicolevdh.com) - [ ] Include in a weekly newsletter.
