Sneak Peak: Obsidian Callouts replaces Obsidian Admonition 2. ==Sneak Peak: Obsidian Callouts== ## Hook One thing I've learned from writing technical documentation is that good writing is skimmable. Since I look at my notes in Obsidian as personal documentation, the same principles apply. Today I want to talk about an early access feature that Obsidian rolled out two weeks ago. It's called Callouts. ## Structure - Only in Obsidian Insider build v0.14 - What was Obsidian Admonition? - Way to break up the text in Obsidian by highlighting certain text. Kind of like code blocks, but more specialised. - Use cases - Programming - Tutorials - D&D - This plugin was so good that it's now been incorporated into Obsidian: not as a core plugin; it's just enabled by default - How to use it - note - abstract, summary, tldr - info, todo - tip, hint, important - success, check, done - question, help, faq - warning, caution, attention - failure, fail, missing - danger, error - bug - example - quote, cite - Folding - It now works natively on Obsidian Publish - You can also change how it looks like by modifying the CSS or selecting themes that support it. > [!question]+ Why the format change? > - It gracefully falls back to blockquotes in unsupported markdown renderers > - It parses all markdown, including links, embeds, etc. > - The internal links are recognized and will show up in backlinks and graphs > - Spellchecker can spellcheck it. - What happens to Admonitions? - It's still up; all Admonition-style code blocks will continue to work - Conversion: `Convert Codeblock Admonitions to Callouts` - Admonition will now add extended functionality. - Command menu to easily create callouts and admonitions - Settings around default funcitonality of callouts - For example, you can use it to create your OWN custom callouts, with different icons - Font Awesome: https://fontawesome.com/ - `icon: apple`, `icon: database` - In my opinion, it's still worthwhile to use Admonitions because of these quality-of-life improvements. Again, Obsidian Callouts, at the time of this recording, is only available in Insider Build v0.14, which means you can only get it if you're on the Catalyst plan ($25 one-off payment). If you're willing to wait, though, this will soon be publicly available. When that happens, I'll pin a comment on this video to let you know. ## Outro If you'd like to learn about other Obsidian plugins, check out my video on the top 10 Obsidian plugins. The Obsidian Callouts feature is out NOW for everyone, including free users! I messed up my timing and recorded this JUST before it went public. /facepalm > If you already had Obsidian Admonition installed, update it because the old version conflicts with Callouts. ## Pre-production - [ ] Take a thumbnail photo and create one for YouTube (1280 x 720). - [ ] Add description. - [ ] Include the title and any keywords in the first few sentences, but in a natural way. - [ ] Add related videos and resources as links. - [ ] Add end screen. - [ ] Add cards if necessary. - [ ] Add video to relevant playlist(s), or create a playlist if necessary. - [ ] Create captions using Descript or using the script, then edit them. - [ ] Add chapters for YouTube if longer than 5 minutes. - [ ] Schedule on YouTube. ## Post-production - [ ] Promote on personal social media. - [ ] Twitter - [ ] LinkedIn - [ ] Create a blog post on [site](https://nicolevanderhoeven.com). - [ ] Add to weekly newsletter.
