Readwise Obsidian workflow // How to process notes 2. ==How to process notes in Obsidian // Readwise Official Obsidian plugin== 3. Readwise Obsidian Plugin 4. ## Hook I have mixed feelings about the Zettelkasten methodology. I like the _idea_, but the methodology is rigid, old-fashioned (its creator, Niklas Luhmann, died in 1998 after all), and it overcomplicates a simple concept. The concept is this: it's unrealistic to read something once and expect to remember it forever. In this video, I'm going to talk about how I learn and retain what I read, in a more modern approach to the Zettelkasten. ## Intro Hi, I'm Nicole van der Hoeven. I'm a Developer Advocate by profession, but on this channel I talk about various ways I like to min/max my life. ## Structure - Tools don't matter, except when they do. I'm showing what I use. This is my workflow. - The end result: all sources going into Obsidian. - Process: - Consume content - Readwise collates them and puts them in a format I choose - My highlights go into my Obsidian vault - I iterate as much as needed - What is Readwise? - acts like middleware between sources I consume and my Obsidian vault - Installing the plugin - Setup in Obsidian - Setup in Readwise - Sources of content I consume - Instapaper (now Reader) - Kindle - Twitter - What it looks like when imported - Every day, at 21:00 (except on Tuesdays, when I have a D&D game), I process the `TVZ` tag. - One tip: don't stress about emptying the inbox. Remove the tag liberally; they're already in your vault anyway. Not all notes should go through the entire process; allow some to fall by the wayside while nurturing others. - Readwise is not free, but there's a trial - click on the referral link to get double the usual trial. In case you were wondering, I've been using Readwise for more than two years, and I've written about them a bit as well. Check out my Ethics Statement (link in the description) to see my standards for products or services I promote. ## Outro The hardest part about learning is knowing what _not_ to learn. Having a system like the one I've outlined here has helped me reduce the noise and focus on learning things that matter to me. Readwise Official is an Obsidian plugin, and if you want to learn more about the plugin ecosystem in general, check out this video. Thanks for watching, and as they say on Vulcan: _Dif-tor heh smusma_. ## Related videos and resources Niklas Luhman photo: https://www.tagesspiegel.de/wissen/niklas-luhmann-zum-90-er-dachte-mit-dem-zettelkasten/20683794.html ## Timestamps 0:00 Intro 0:43 Main sources of content and my use case for Readwise 2:05 How to install and setup the Readwise Official plugin 5:35 From an ebook or Twitter to Obsidian 8:09 Making permanent notes in Obsidian 12:12 Readwise pricing ## Pre-production - [x] Take a thumbnail photo and create one for YouTube (1280 x 720). - [x] Add description. - [x] Include the title and any keywords in the first few sentences, but in a natural way. - [x] Add related videos and resources as links. - [x] Add end screen. - [x] Add cards if necessary. - [x] Add video to relevant playlist(s), or create a playlist if necessary. - [x] Create captions using Descript or using the script, then edit them. - [x] Add chapters for YouTube if longer than 5 minutes. - [x] Schedule on YouTube. ## Post-production - [ ] Promote on personal social media. - [ ] Twitter - [ ] LinkedIn - [ ] Create a blog post on [site](https://nicolevanderhoeven.com). - [ ] Add to weekly newsletter.
