Tracking New Year's Resolutions in Obsidian 2. How to set OKRs in Obsidian | New Year's Resolutions 3. How to set goals in Obsidian | New Year's Resolutions 4. Set OKRs, not resolutions - in Obsidian! ## Hook According to [YouGov](https://yougov.co.uk/topics/lifestyle/articles-reports/2020/12/30/new-years-resolutions-2020-and-2021), your chances of actually keeping all your New Year's resolutions is 25%-- that's only 1 in 4 people. This failure could be down to many things, but one of the reasons I've personally not kept resolutions is because I didn't set up a system to review them. Here's exactly how I'm tracking my goals in Obsidian for 2022. ## Structure - What is an OKR? - Objectives - Key Results - Why are OKRs better than New Year's Resolutions? - Focus on how to measure (SMART) - More structure - reviews (this is why they're used in many companies as talking points for performance reviews) - My system in a nutshell - 1: Core Principles - 2: Yearly OKRs - 3: Monthly Initiatives - 4: Weekly Goals - 5: Daily Tasks - First level: [[My Core Principles]] - Second level: Yearly OKRs - Plugin (core): Templates - Plugin: Quick Add - Third level: Monthly Initiatives - You can also do quarterly, but I prefer monthly - Fourth level: Weekly Goals - Weekly Review checklist is key - Plugin: Calendar - Allow weekly notes - Fifth level: Daily tasks - Plugin: Checklist - Plugin (Core): Daily Note + Templates - This is not the best for everyone, but it's the best for me because: - It's automated: Templates + Periodic Notes plugins help me not to forget key steps - Yearly, Monthly, Weekly, and Daily notes are pre-populated with templates for me. - It's not overly complex: 5 OKRs per year is not too difficult to keep track of - It situates everything I do within the context of my Core Principles. ## Outro You may have noticed that one thing this system doesn't cover is content, and all the tasks I need to do to create stuff. That's because I cover that in a separate system - check out this video for the details on that. Thanks for watching, and happy 2022! ## Related videos and resources [[OKR]] [[My Task Management System]] YouGov: https://yougov.co.uk/topics/lifestyle/articles-reports/2020/12/30/new-years-resolutions-2020-and-2021 Marcus Olsson's blog post on OKR tracking in Obsidian: https://marcus.se.net/how-i-set-and-track-goals-in-obsidian/ Plugins mentioned: - Templates (core plugin): https://help.obsidian.md/Plugins/Templates - Quick Add (community plugin): https://github.com/chhoumann/quickadd - Periodic notes (community plugin): https://github.com/liamcain/obsidian-periodic-notes - Calendar (community plugin): https://github.com/liamcain/obsidian-calendar-plugin - Daily Notes (core plugin): https://help.obsidian.md/Plugins/Daily+notes ## Timestamps 0:00 Intro 01:01 Level 1: Core Principles 02:04 Level 2: Yearly OKRs 06:57 Level 3: Monthly Initiatives 08:15 Level 4: Weekly Goals 10:34 Level 5: Daily Tasks ## Pre-production - [ ] Take a thumbnail photo and create one for YouTube (1280 x 720). - [ ] Add description. - [ ] Include the title and any keywords in the first few sentences, but in a natural way. - [ ] Add related videos and resources as links. - [ ] Add end screen. - [ ] Add cards if necessary. - [ ] Add video to relevant playlist(s), or create a playlist if necessary. - [ ] Create captions using Descript or using the script, then edit them. - [ ] (For k6 videos) Send Floor thumbnail and video link for promotion. - [ ] Add chapters for YouTube if longer than 5 minutes. - [ ] Schedule on YouTube. ## Post-production - [ ] Promote on personal social media. - [ ] Twitter - [ ] LinkedIn - [ ] Create a blog post on [nicolevdh.com](http://nicolevdh.com) - [ ] Include in a weekly newsletter.
