How to take effective notes from a book (87) 5. ==How to take notes from a book with Obsidian // The Culture Map== ## Hook Let's be real: if we always took notes on every single book we read, we'd read very few books. And if I personally had to follow a complicated, multi-step methodology to do it... I just would never take notes. So while I do take a lot of notes on what I read, there's also way more that I'm content to enjoy notelessly-- and some that I'm content to take notes on in my own "sub-optimal" way. In this video, I'm going to take you with me as I process my notes from a book I HAVE decided to take notes on: The Culture Map, by Erin Meyer. ## Structure - I read Indistractable 6 months ago, so this is not the ideal time to do it. I'm fine with it because I can't take notes on everything. I let my interest and need decide whether I take notes more critically on a book or article. - Raw material - From Amazon Kindle: [[readwise/Books/The Culture Map]] - My summary: [[sources/Book/The Culture Map]] - Incorporate into my notes - Use Excalibrain to explore where this should fit - Create an atomic visual about it using Excalidraw. - Create an atomic essay about it. ## Outro These workflow videos are always tricky because I don't want to give the impression that this is how I process every single book. This is ONE example of a book I really wanted to spend some time on, but there are thousands of other books that I read and never even highlight. Even those that I do choose to process, I don't always do in this way. This is just how I felt like doing it today. If you're interested in more workflow-type videos, check out this video on how I process technical notes around observability, or this one on how I prepare for a D&D session-- very different use cases, both in Obsidian. *Dankon por spekti*.
