## Hook
Too often we talk about personal knowledge management systems in terms of abstract philosophies. What I'm _more_ interested in, though, is how my system can actually help me solve problems in my daily life. Otherwise it's just optimization masturbation.
If you've watched my channel before, you might have noticed I'm somewhere different, and you'd be right. I'm currently in my new home country of Portugal. In this video, I want to share how I researched, planned, and executed this cross-country move using my favourite note-taking tool, Obsidian.
## Structure
- Why Portugal?
- Research on taxes
- Used Readwise to do research: [[How to Pay Zero Income Tax With Non-Habitual Residence in Portugal]]
- [[Taxation in Portugal]] and [[Portuguese Non-Habitual Residency Program|NHR]]
- Deciding where to move
- Reconnaisance in [[Portugal]] with [[Obsidian Leaflet]], plus consolidate research and experiences
- Zero in on a place and do the same thing with houses.
- Why Setúbal?
- Close to Lisbon, but not near Lisbon
- Close to the airport (an Uber is 40 €)
- Low cost of life, high quality of life
- Fishing town, Mercado do Livramento
- Proximity to Arrabida, sea, and Troia Peninsula
- Making a decision
- [[Moving to Portugal]]
- [[Buying a house in Portugal]]
- Post-move learnings: TBD
- [[system/project/Portugal]]
## Outro
The notes I've shown you are not perfect. They're not thorough enough to be a guide for anyone who wants to move to Portugal, since they're very much based on MY situation and what I'M looking for in a future home. But if I held off on publishing based on that, then I'd probably never publish it. My notes are also not DONE. I'm still constantly updating them based on new information. That's how it should be!
I mentioned two plugins in this video: Obsidian Leaflet and Kanban. I've made videos about both of those plugins for other contexts than moving to a new country. Here's a video I made on how I use Obsidian for D&D, including Obsidian Leaflet, and here's another that I made about using Kanban for content creation.
Até a próxima vez! Thanks for watching.
