### Hook
Creativity is a fickle thing. Sometimes, all the discipline or experience in the world won't inspire you to write when you're not feeling properly motivated.
In this video, I'm going to show you a plugin I use frequently to get my creative juices going, for work and for play. It's called Dice Roller.
### Structure
- What is Dice Roller?
- Dice Roller was created to let you roll virtual dice for TTRPGs
- BUT it can also be used in non-gaming contexts
- Syntax: ==dice:==
- Rolling random numbers
- Default: `1d20`
- Percentiles: `1d%`
- Min/max: `1d[3,5]`
- Fudge/Fate dice: `4dF`
- FAGE: `1dS`
- Keep highest: `2d20kh1`
- Drop highest: `2d20dh1`
- Keep lowest: `2d20kl1`
- Drop lowest: `2d20dl1`
- Explode: `3d4!1`
- Re-roll: `3d4ri`
- Dice conditions: Determine which ones are considered "successful". `1d20r<6`
- Modifier conditions (for explode, combine, re-roll)
- Roll using Dataview fields
- Roll on tables
- Multiple headers
- Nested tables
- Ex: [[Performance test heuristics]]
- [[kOH 79 - Exploratory testing]]
- Roll using blocks:
- section: `3d[[Software Testing]]`
- paragraph: `3d[[Software Testing]]|paragraph`
- Ex: tags: `#TVZ|link`
- Roll on lists
- Replacing note content: `dice-mod`
- Other things I don't show
- Graphical dice and interface
- Globally saving results
- Integrations with other TTRPG plugins (Fantasy Statblocks, Initiative Tracker)
### Outro
If you'd like to know more about how I create content by leaning into my natural curiosity and a little bit of randomness, check out this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4zrs_vVRwD4
I think it's a shame that plugins like Dice Roller are relegated to being "only for play" when the reality is that playfulness is an attitude. And sometimes, all you need to shake yourself out of a creative rut is a little bit of fun. Thanks for watching!
