### Hook
I've always been a bookworm. As a kid, I got my allowance in books: 3 a week, and even that wasn't enough. Throughout the years, the amount of disposable time I have has waned, but my interest has not. In 2020 I read 54 books, in 2021 I read 20, and this year I've read 31 so far. All of that is on the Kindle. I do read some other books, most notably those related to roleplaying games, but those books aren't included in that tally because they're often not available on the Kindle. I got my first kindle in 2010, and I've never been without one since.
In this video I'm going to share some tips I've learned for optimising my reading and taking notes on Kindles.
### Structure
- Tips
- Use services like Shortform to figure out what you *don't* want to read.
- Use Kindle + Readwise + Obsidian
- Change your Readwise configuration settings to tag them in the way that makes sense for Obsidian.
- Use multiple Kindles (devices and even apps) to maximise how much you read. Always have a book with you.
- Read multiple books at a time so you can switch to the one you're most interested in.
- Make notes with links in Obsidian syntax: `[[like this]]`.
- Highlight chapters-- and make a note with `.h2`, `.h3`, etc. Readwise automatically recognises these.
- Get a cover or put a PopSocket on your Kindle.
- Send PDFs to Kindle for free.
- Connect your Kindle to Goodreads. What you track, you optimise.
### Outro
I've tried many generations of Kindles, but I've also tried other ereaders. I've had multiple Kobos, and I've gone through phases where I read only on my tablet or on my mobile. I just keep coming back to my Kindles! If you'd like to see how I process notes in Obsidian *after* I get them from my Kindle, check out this video for a real-life example.
Thanks for watching, and *¡Disfruta tu libro!*
