Using the Obsidian Quick Add Plugin ## Hook The Obsidian Quick Add community plugin is easily overlooked, in part, I think, because at its heart, it just makes it easy to add content to your notes... which makes it seem unnecessary. Isn't that what taking notes is about? The real value of Quick Add is in the automation. In this video, I'm going to talk through the features of Quick Add, and then finish off with how *I* use it for automating meetings, task management, daily logging, and more. ## Structure {{DATE:YYYY-MM-DD}} {{VALUE}} - Dev: Christian B. B. Houmann - Multi - "Create a new folder" - Template - "Add new file according to this template" - Ex: Default meeting, NPC - Capture - "Add to file without opening it or leaving the file I'm on" - Ex: - Logging or journalling with timestamp - Add to agenda for person - Macro - String along multiple things in a step - More advanced Kanban Board use case with macros. - Show the full manual process: - Go to [[Content Board]]. - Add a task. - Type out the title. - Turn it into a note. - Apply NVDH video template. - Replace templates if needed (Templater sometimes needs that). - Go back to Content Board and put in the emoji I want. - Show my CMD+SHIFT+OPTION+N shortcut that does all of that. - Show how I created that macro. - Combine with Buttons and Templater (show D&D session setup) - MetaEdit macros (MetaEdit was made by the same developer) ## Outro There's a lot more that you can do with Quick Add that I haven't shown you here. Its macros let you run user scripts written in JavaScript, so sky's the limit there. I use Quick Add in conjunction with Templater and Buttons as part of my TTRPG setup for creating new worlds and new sessions. If you want to hear more about that, check out this video. I love plugins that are open-ended because they give you the freedom to faciliate your own specific workflows, even if they're super niche and only useful for you. Thank you for watching!
