Whether it was true or not, Koshon doesn't know, but he believes. Driven by this, he assumes he is royalty among his group. With a small alligator, Sir Connor, as his royal mount, and a stolen lance, and an ego that dwarfs his physical size, he hopes to live up to this expectation. - Kuya: [Zinwyn](https://www.dndbeyond.com/profile/DemonAzgrael2/characters/64474516) the Kobold Rogue Scout - Rob: [Kermit](https://www.dndbeyond.com/profile/robvanderhoeven/characters/64571088) the Swolbold Barbarian Path of the Totem Warrior (Bear) - Nico: [Krymsen Stoll](https://www.dndbeyond.com/profile/TNTKing8419/characters/64608680) the Kobold Rogue Swashbuckler - Ate Kat: [Kaidra](https://www.dndbeyond.com/profile/Princess16_2022/characters/64474397) the Kobold Spellclerk Cleric Life Domain - Wants to be a princess ## House Rules - [[Index Card RPG#Battle fury|Battle Fury]] - When you miss an attack, take a d6 and put it in front of you, at 1. This is an amount that you will add to your next attack roll. If you hit, it resets. If you miss, you increment it by 1. - No flanking, but you can get advantage if I think there's a good reason why your chances are higher than usual. For example: if you attack from a higher position, or if you build off of someone else's attack, or if the target is distracted somehow. - [[Index Card RPG#Everything is done in turns|Everything is done in turns]] ## Strong Start > This time of year, in the city of Norpolonia, is particularly beautiful. There are Yuletide markets: each small stall made of logs, snow hanging on the roofs like a festive blanket, mouth-watering smells emanating from some of them. On the streets, there is a sense of joy, and comfort, and welcoming... but not for you. > You are the unwanted. You are dismissed like rodents, like nuisances that the humanoids must tolerate at best, or exterminate at worst. You are the lowest of the low. You are kobolds. > Not too long ago, you served a dragon, the Green Royal Illustrious Notorious Champion of Hullaballoo, or GRINCH for short. The times when the Grinch ruled were a golden age for dragonkind, including you. You proudly served the Grinch, and he, in turn, put you in a position of power-- fit for the beings of draconic heritage that you are. > Until one day, when the crazed man from the north, Sanderklauzen the Red, came and slew the Grinch. Since Sanderklauzen's coming, you have been relegated to your current lowly status and forced to take shelter in the sewers underneath the city. > But not for long. You have each been chosen for your special abilities by your Raggletingle, King of the Kobolds. Today is the day you restore koboldkin to their rightful place above these wingless creatures called humanoids. Today is the day you kill Sanderklauzen! > A loyal steward of King Raggletingle has just shown you to a part of the sewers you've never been before. The kobold steward wishes you well, and then turns the sewer gate closed behind you. You haven't even had time to introduce yourselves to each other when... _snick! snick! snick!_ X, Y, and Z, do these hit your AC? 17, 20, 15. 5 damage each > Roll for initiative! ## Scenes ### 10:00 Sewer Encounter [[Roachling Skirmisher]]s - 🎵: [Sewers](https://syrinscape.com/online/master/#/?element=161171&soundset=7382&mood=30160) + D&D Battle music element - ![[a_kobold_christmas-sewer_map.png]] - Dynamite trap: DC 13 to detect, DC 13 to disarm ```encounter name: Sewer Encounter players: - Kaidra - Kermit - Koshon - Yama - Zinwyn - Sir Connor creatures: - Kobold Alchemist - 6: Roachling Skirmisher ``` #### Sewers - Smells foul, like unwashed reptiles-- oh wait, that's you. - Drip drip dripping of water from somewhere - There are walkways suspended 5 feet above a greenish water with clumps of something solid sticking to it. ### 10:30 [[Kobold Alchemist|Boomtingle]] comes out and explains all, or throws dynamite to finish off the roachlings if nobody has tripped the dynamite yet. She'll give them 1 stick of dynamite and 1 potion of healing each, but only if they are nice to her. - She has a cloth headband pulling back her ears - One of her feet is gone, and instead she has a strange concoction made of the end of a pitchfork and a toilet plunger that she's using as a prosthetic leg - One eye seems permanently shut ### 11:00 Continuing to Sanderklauzen's house - Outside house: 🎵: [BC - Outside of the cabin](https://syrinscape.com/online/master/#/?element=897912&soundset=44996&mood=149222) - As soon as you come up from the sewers, you feel a biting wind on your face. - As you walk, your footsteps make a slight crunching noise. - In front of you is a log cabin, two stories. There's a door in front of you with something written on it in some sort of sign. - Inside house: 🎵: [BC - Inside of the cabin](https://syrinscape.com/online/master/#/?element=897912&soundset=44996&mood=149223) + `Music - fields` - There are some lights left on, but not all of them. - There's a half-eaten meal on the table - You can smell something syrupy sweet in the air. - On the walls there are hunting trophies hung up - you recognize them as reindeer. - First floor - ![[a_kobold_christmas-grotto-L01.png]] - Second floor - ![[a_kobold_christmas-grotto-L02.png]] - Reindeer: - Reshad - Recand - Recranp - Xeniv - Temoc - Dipuc - Rendon - Netzilb ### 12:00 Encounter: [[Sanderklauzen the Red]] > As you press the final button, every reindeer's eye glow as though suddenly switched on, as they look up their arcane energy now active, you feel a strange change to the gravity around you and the sounds of the grotto creaking and cracking as it breaks from its foundations and lifts into the sky. > You look at each other and feel panic begin to set in. You hear the sound of Christmas bells that slowly reverberate around the grotto. An alarm. Moments after this you hear heavy footfalls that shake the house all around as the deep, powerful, and violent voice of Sanderklauzen echoes across the grotto. "Ho ho ho, it seems you have found yourselves on the naughty list!" Your final battle with Sanderklauzen the Red is at hand. Roll for initiative! ```encounter name: Sanderklauzen Encounter players: - Kaidra - Kermit - Koshon - Yama - Zinwyn - Sir Connor creatures: - Sanderklauzen the Red ``` - Round 1: Sanderklauzen appears and the grotto lifts into the sky - Round 2: _Where are my cookies?!_ Pushes everyone 5 squares away as he flails around. - Round 3: _Gift delivery!_ ### 13:00 Defeat > As Sanderklauzen the Red lies dead at your feet, you have a mere moment of jubilation. You did it! You brought the tyrant's reign to an end and now, as the old man bleeds into his finely varnished wooden floorboards, you can celebrate! > As you begin to yell in jubilation, you are suddenly thrown onto the floor as the entire grotto, which was held aloft by Sanderklauzen's Christmas magic, shudders once - twice, then begins to plummet down towards the town of Norpolonia. You have 12 seconds - 2 rounds - before you make impact against the cobblestones of Norpolonia. What do you want to do to try to escape Sanderklauzen's grotto and maybe - just maybe - save yourselves? ```ad-info title: If the kobolds are killed collapse: true > As Sanderklauzen [...] [PC]'s body slumps to the floor. Beside him are the similar, dragon-scaled, small bodies and one larger one. Sanderklauzen looks around, satisfied by the mess, goes to his armchair, sits down, and takes a swig of milk. And then he begins to laugh. "Ho ho ho... ho ho ho! HO HO HO!" And his laugh echoes through the quiet night, down below the surface, where hopeful kobolds sigh sorrowfully, shake their heads, and brace themselves mentally for several more generations of subjugation. ``` ### 13:30 (max) Finale > The surface inhabitants of Norpolonia tell the tale of this night in somber voices. Sanderklauzen's body is found, and the Norpolonians go into a state of mourning. This is the saddest Yuletide they'll ever experience. > Down below the surface of Norpolonia, the tale is told quite differently. The tale is told of 5 heroic kobolds that dared to raise a draconic fist against the tyranny of surface: > (Kuya: ) > (Kyan: one carrying a lance with the icon of the Grinch ) > (Nico: one with a firework) > (Ate Kat: one in fine robes) > (Rob: and one with smears of bacon) > These kobolds are forever remembered as the ones that ended the ho-ho-horrible reign of Sanderklauzen the Red. ## Secrets and Clues - [ ] Sanderklauzen's grotto contains a riddle. It has something to do with reindeer... - [ ] Sanderklauzen gives gifts to everyone, but picks and chooses arbitrarily whether each person gets a good gift or a bad gift. Why should he get to decide? - [ ] Some say that the grotto that Sanderklauzen lives in is the same one he uses to travel the world, seeking to expand his empire. - [ ] Some of Sanderklauzen's gifts can be helpful. - [ ] The Roachlings are a rival gang to the kobolds. The sewers were their territory when the kobolds ruled the surface, but the kobold exodus below the surface caused fighting between the two races for control of precious sewer territory. - [x] There's an old kobold named Boomtingle who disappeared two years ago to go renegade. It's said that King Raggletingle is her son, and that's why he has turned a blind eye to her escapades... - [ ] Sanderklauzen loves anagrams. When it's not Yuletide, he can often be found in the main square, chuckling over anagrams while drinking a cup of hot cocoa. - [x] Sanderklauzen's love for sweets has driven him to be quite a confectioner. Once you smell what he's cooking, it's difficult not to want to taste it. - [ ] Sanderklauzen has a list of reasons to put people on a naughty list. Some of them include: _is a kobold. doesn't like chocolate. eats with mouth open. is smelly._ - [ ] Sanderklauzen is planning an incursion into the sewers to clear them of "rodent" and "vermin" like the kobolds and roachlings. ## Locations ## Loot ### Magical `dice: [[A Kobold Christmas#^loot]]` | Magic Item | Effect | | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | ------------------------------ | | [Kobold firework](https://www.dndbeyond.com/magic-items/4324703-kobold-firework-deafening-kobold-barker) | deafens | | [Gnomesalt taffy](https://www.dndbeyond.com/magic-items/4324711-gnomesalt-taffy) | reach +5ft, +1 for reach | | [Dire bacon](https://www.dndbeyond.com/magic-items/4324728-dire-bacon) | Ath adv., H-O endurance | | [Electric eel sushi](https://www.dndbeyond.com/magic-items/4324732-electric-eel-sushi) | lightning resist., +2d4 damage | | [Roast bean juice](https://www.dndbeyond.com/magic-items/4324734-roast-bean-juice) | adv. on init and saves | | [Saffron-dusted carrots](https://www.dndbeyond.com/magic-items/4324740-saffron-dusted-carrot) | adv. on Perc., huge jump | ^loot ### Mundane `dice: [[A Kobold Christmas#^mundaneloot]]|Items` | 1d10 | Items | | ---- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | | 1 | 7 gp, a vial of ink (10 gp), an apple, several strips of leather | | 2 | 9 sp, a blob of wax, an empty vial (1 gp) | | 3 | 6 ep, a bottle of honey, a mysterious clockwork device | | 4 | 6 gp, a document of identification, a pair of cloth gloves, an apple | | 5 | 15 cp, an invitation, several mushrooms (poisonous) | | 6 | 14 gp, a small lodestone, several mushrooms (poisonous), some chalk | | 7 | 14 sp, a blob of iron, a dragon's tooth | | 8 | 18 gp, a set of fine brushes (5 gp), an apple | | 9 | 13 cp, a cloth game board and wooden tokens, a pair of dice engraved with runes | | 10 | 13 ep, a salted fish, a two-headed copper coin | ^mundaneloot ## Log 0:00 Intro and initiative! 10:27 Kermit's introduction 17:23 Zinwyn's introduction 21:05 Yama's introduction 28:03 Kaidra 32:49 Koshon's introduction (plus Sir Connor) 41:00 Looting and talking to Boomtingle 1:08:51 Zinwyn enters the house 2:02:34 Pressing the buttons 3:10:41 HDYWTDT and the next challenge
