Usually we just run. We were able to save our livestock by letting them out of their pens and chasing them off, but I think you saved our crop of glister berries. We were ready to write the family farm off._ Me: _Glad we could help! I happen to be travelling with some pretty awesome companions who are handy in a fight. We're actually on our way to Vesburgh. Originally it would only happen two or three times a year, but the last year or two has been progressively worse. You knocked down this nest today, but give it a few weeks and there will be a new once trying to eat our animals, or us if we aren't careful._ You can see that Thosin's leg has a few bite marks on his leggings, one of the bites looks fairly nasty. Teel starts to rip at the leggings to get a good look at the wound. Why haven't the people of Vesburg moved away, if the teratomas keep attacking?_ 10. ### _[_13:37_]_MarcoPolo_:_  _I don't think anyone really knows. Just a lot of scared people making guesses. Vesburgh townies started accusing each other and that's when Thosin and I decided to leave town and take over the farm. Luckily Talosia was able to calm people down, Aeon priests always seem to know exactly what to say. She said she was working on getting answers. In the meantime, she started setting everyone to work on building up some down defenses. She said "idle hands are the work of dataworms." I think she was just buying time._ _As to the leaving bit....where would we go? We all grew up here. My family's farm is here. I can't speak for the town, but for me, it's all I know._ 11. ### _[_15:40_]_Leah_:_  From the ground, still resting against the fence. _“Talosia is the local Aeon priest? What’s she like?”_ (edited) 12. ### _[_19:54_]_MarcoPolo_:_  _It's hard to really know an Aeon priest. They have so many layers and agendas it's hard to know if what you are seeing is really them._ _From what I can tell she is kind and has a real love for the people of Vesburgh. Maybe that just lines up with what her faith wants, or maybe she is just telling us what we want to hear. Only the Sphere knows._ ## Log We're all healing. - Divine Nex heals Jackie - 10 minutes. Good job-- we all rolled a 1! Teal and Thosin offer us 30 shins and 3 cyphers. I start to say we don't need anything, but Jackie speaks to accept it. ![[dob-biomorph.png]] I rolled a distinctive mutation, and it's a Level 6. I also identify the others' numanera. Squee gets a helmet and goggle set. ![[dob-sense-record.png]] His is Level 8. Jackie's is Level 8: She helps me with the task. ![[dob-detonation-plant-transformation.png]] I tell Jackie and Squeeee to only have 2 cyphers at a time this time. Teel and Thosin say that the way we can help best is to stop the teratoma situation, because they'll just come back again in a week or so. Talk to Talosia. SQUEEEE learns BOOM My earliest memory is of getting planted and feeling the sunlight and water on me. Squeeee starts pouring water on his head. Divine gets a smirk on their face as they watch Squeeee. Divine asks Jackie what her first memory was. Jackie remembers looking at her own face in the bathroom mirror on Level 4 of some building. She has no memories before then. She says there's a label on the inside of her jacket that says "Jack". She doesn't know if she's FOR something, or what she's for. I think I'm FOR something, but I just don't know what. Divine is FOR entertainment. They were lost for a very long time before they were found. Their first memory was in a large city. They had a toy, a stone elephant. They were in their family's first home and they dropped the elephant down the stairwell. Maybe experimenting with gravity? They watched it drop and the trunk was half-broken after a few years. On the final flight of stairs, they tripped. And it was an out-of-body experience and they floated down to the stone elephant. What do we make of that memory? - Me: Looking for roots. Being grounded. Maybe they were playing with gravity because they were looking for something to build a foundation on. - Jackie: You just invented a game that sounds fun. We keep walking to [[Vesburgh]]. Eventually, we do catch a glimpse of it on the next hill. We see: - a palisade surrounding a dozen or so stone structures. Not well-built-- very crude, made of junk. It's like a fence around a town. Looks cobbled together. - Some buildings are outside the palisades. Some are burnt. - Most people are inside. Some are outside, gathering firewood to bring back in. - We see people with crossbows in hand, keeping an eye out. They ask us what the news is from outside the town. I say Teel and Thosin say hi. They ask if it's [[Divine Nex]] with us, and we say yes. They get excited, like they've been expecting them. They've just been raided. They ask us if we've seen bandits. We say no, and we say we saw teratomas though. They talk about not being on duty at night and hearing voices, but they're not sure if they're teratomas or not. We didn't see them fully, but they were actually the slugs of ears and teeth. We remember the things we saw in the cavae. They introduce Keersan. They're 20 years old, impressionable. They were raided by two-legged bandits. Teratomas like to come at night but recently they've been coming during the day. They use fire to keep them at bay, but it's hard. They're fanboying hard at Divine Nex. "I never met an Aerosultant before." There are kids that come up to us, and an older man with a humongous beard and a prosthetic leg. He's [[Maxter]], Teel's grandfather. He gives us a bottle of glisterberry wine. He asks us to stay with him. Divine Nex is going to do a performance tonight. We go find [[Talosia]], the Aeon priest. Squeeee is the first person that notices them. They are young, younger than what we'd think an Aeon priest would be. They're wearing the proper vestments of an Aeon priest in the field. They're helping hold up a wall as a brace is being put in. As Squeeee is watching, the wall starts to fall. Squeeee jumps in and helps out right away and stops it from falling. Talosia says they've been wanting to talk to Divine Nex. We know that the church of Aeon is dedicated to numenera and truth and wisdom. It's evolved to the point where it's almost quasi-religious. We talk to Talosia. - The original missive they sent out was regarding the teratomas, but it's no longer the most important issue. - The most important issue is the raid that just happened early this morning. It destroyed a good half of the palisades and burned down almost all of the out-buildings. They're doing significant repairs inside to the buildings as well. - They want all hands to help with repair efforts. - He says they're glad to see "One of the Divine". Divine says it's a title. Their real name was Albert. We can call them "Nex" now because we're close, but they would not like it if the person at the Pyramid called them just "Nex". What's our name?? - Squeeee: BOOM - Jackie: Many Things ? Talosia seems like they're about 20 years old, but wiser and more responsible than we'd expect. It's about 1-2 pm. Skill challenge: Helping the people of Vesburgh recover from the raid. - Squeeee: Fortification, heavy lifting. ✅ He helps build a wall that is now a "Squeeee Boom Wall" - Me: Healing people from this weird rash that everyone had. ✅ - Jackie: Boost morale for villagers who are probably not feeling too great after a raid. ✅ ![[dob-divine-nex-as-david-bowie-in-vesburgh.png]] Now it's time to perform apparently!! - Squeeee: Feats of strength with fake barbells that he gets angry about being fake. - Me: Magical tricks, disappearing lady with Jackie. Suddenly: "They're back. They're back!!!" Arrows start hitting the stage.
