# [[001_20220928 Fellowship of Loamy Heather]] ## Session Summary > [!tldr] [[001_20220928 Fellowship of Loamy Heather]] > Our adventure began in Bree, where we (Amaranth Proudfoot, Mintford Heathertoes, Déorbrand, and Tonlin Son of Korgar) were waiting for the caravan we were supposed to be escorting to leave. It had been delayed due to some packages not having arrived and to the bad weather. We were approached by a noble dwarf named Balin, son of Fundi, who had heard of us and asked for our help. > > He explained that there was a parcel that we would find on one of the beasts of burden that travelled with the caravan. He said we would be approached by someone along the way who would tell us where the parcel was. He asked us to find the parcel, leave the caravan, immediately head to the Halls of the Dwarves, and personally deliver it into the hands of the King of the Firebeards. He warned us that many people would be after it, but that it was of utmost importance. The parcel contains ancient maps of underground tunnels connecting three dwarven cities, and it's not something that should be in the wrong hands. He paid us four pouches of coin (12 treasure points) and also gave us a dwarven Ring of Belariad that would help us spot danger. We gave it to Brand. > > The next morning, we set out with the caravan and immediately made friends with the hobbit horsekeeper, Cormy, who hinted to us (a little too subtly that we almost missed it) that the parcel was with a horse named Dandelion. > > One day, the caravan was intercepted by some men on horseback. The owner of the caravan, Oswald, told us that they were sent by the same person who had given Oswald a good deal on the horses in exchange for Oswald taking his son, Bill, who was with us in the caravan, along. The hobbits went to retrieve the parcel from Dandelion and talked to Cormy, who hinted that we should go when we want to. We set off with our friends, and plotted a journey towards the Halls of the Dwarves. > > We went from east of Brandywine Bridge to the north, skirting around the river and heading up north. When we got to the ruined city of Annuminas, we started to get a bad feeling and realised we were in the Dark Lands. Fatigued and ill-favoured, we let our guard down and our dwarf, Tonlin, failed to get out of the way in time before part of the ruined tower crashed on him, and he became wounded. The next morning, we were intercepted by a lone figure who introduced himself as Erandor from the North, a Dunedain like Brand, who warned us that he had seen four men on horseback west of the river, and that they seemed to be looking for us. ^summary --- ## Recap ![[No games found#^summary]] --- ## Log %% ```leaflet id: eriador image: tor-eriador.png height: 450px width: 800px minZoom: 6 maxZoom: 10 defaultZoom: 7 zoomDelta: 1 unit: feet scale: 1 ``` %% The party! - [[Amaranth Proudfoot]] - [[Mintford Heathertoes]] - [[Déorbrand of the North]] - [[Tonlir Son of Korgar]] We are experienced caravan escort guards. We are escorting [[Oswald Kettlegrass]]. He's delivery goods from east of [[The Misty Mountains]] to Nogrod (last remaining kingdom in [[The Blue Mountains]]). Caravan hasn't left yet. It's a bit weird. We're spending one last night in [[Bree]]. We are met by a very elderly dwarf with a white beard and small spectacles. [[Balin Son of Fundin]]. We don't know him. He's a dwarven advisor to elven kings. But he knows us! We have earned the trust of [[Kazad]] (dwarvenkind). He is placing his trust in us: a dangerous mission. Hidden in the caravan on a beast of burden is a parcel containing documents that must reach the [[Halls of Nogrod]] and be delivered directly to the [[King of the Firebeards]], Nagdrovar aka Tumozahar. Only the most hardy dwarves remain - they are the Firebeards. This package must reach him directly. There are many who cannot be trusted. Take it and then depart from the caravan and go to Nogrod. [[Quest - Deliver parcel to King of the Firebeards]] What's in this parcel? Contains an [[Ancient Dwarven Maps of the First Age|ancient relic of the First Age]]. They are maps - coded maps that detail undeground roads connecting Kazadun, Nogrod, Bellogast. These are all dwarven cities. We can't let these maps fall into the wrong hands. He has a friend who will reveal himself along the journey and reveal the hiding place. Then we can decide when to depart from the caravan. He pulls out four pouches of coin. (12 treasure points) and a ring with a pearl in the centre. It is the [[Ring of Belariad]], made by the hand of Thranekall. It identifies us as trusted dwarf friends. It will help us along the journey. (In The One Ring, treasure is not counted. Instead we get treasure points. This is dependent on our standard of living.) Déorbrand is our ranger. [[The Prancing Pony]] is the inn we're at. Oswald says we're setting out tomorrow, rain or shine. Oswald said they were waiting for more parcels and it was raining, but he's ready to go. Minty and I have gone back and forth between The Shire and Bree. Mostly dwarves and a hobbit. The hobbit is caring for the ponies. [[MacCormick Cormy Thistlebutton]]. He likes the pony named Dandelion. Mintford Heathertoes I do really well with the horses. I have 2d6 to add to rolls in interacting with them. Next day, we meet some people (men in horseback) along the way. Oswald is a bit wary and talks to them, but doesn't stop. Two of them go westward, two eastward. We think the Shire might be two nights away. He says he had an ill look about them. There's a young man whose name is [[Bill Ferny]] and whose [[Mr Ferny|father]] made him take his son and he gave Oswald a good deal on the ponies. He's about 15 or 16. His father said he was a bit of a layabout. He's hanging around some men who speak with their hands over their mouths. I help Minty stealth to eavesdrop on them. The young guy tells them: "I don't care if you don't trust them. Do your job. Find that parcel or my father will whip you." Brand thinks there's something evil lurking in those hills... [[The Barrow Downs]] are where people are buried. I go to talk to the dwarves, [[Gorsnow]] and [[Darr]]. When he wears the ring, he has a +1d6 to Awareness and Craft checks. Bill Ferny is the young man. Minty found the parcel wrapped in leather! It has Dwarven runes. Balin is our patron. We get 4 Fellowship points every session. We can also spend a Fellowship point during combat to add to protection rolls. Cormy is definitely the guy. He tells us we should go when we want. He said he'd be in [[Michel Delving]]. ![[tor-travel-to-annuminas.png]] We trace a path to Halls of the Dwarves and decide to go now! Travel time! - Guide: (Travel) Tonlir - Scout: (Explore) Minty - Hunter: (Hunting) Me - Lookout: (Awareness) Brand Brand finds us a shortcut! We get to a place near [[Annuminas]] and it feels like a bad place. Brand saves us from a mudslide. We should get to Annuminas in a day. We are in Dark Lands, so travel checks are ill-favoured. We get to the river north of Annuminas. It's blanketed by a perpetual mist throughout Lake's Edge. A tower fell on the dwarf! He is Wounded for 9 days. Minty gets an extraordinary success while scouting for us. We don't suffer fatigue, and we see a lone figure watching us from a bit away. He introduces himself as [[Erandor from the North]], a Dunedain. He has seen four men on horseback and they have a camp west of the river.
