Conan tells them of their mission: sneak into the honey festival that the humans are putting on, find the Black Orchid Honey, and retrieve it without getting caught. Borra talks her way past the guards at the entrance, and the rest of the party begins to sample wares from the various honey stalls at the festival. Shadowflow narrowly escapes the guards when his attempt at thievery is spotted. Following his nose, Hrolfarhathanar makes a bee-line for the largest source of honey in the vicinity: the stone building at the end of the honey festival. The rest of the party follows him, finding a stone room that looks like a study. Mama finds a scroll with some seemingly unrelated words on the table. Shadowflow figures out that the mirror is an Opposite mirror, and saying the opposites of the words in front of the mirror gives the bears passage to the next room, where a grid of red lasers guards the prized honey and a beehive. Bearis and Termite work on the control panel together and manage to disable the laser grid, and Bearis scrapes out a circle into the box containing the honey and the beehive. As Bearis and Hrolfarhathanar salivate over the smell of honey, guards are called in. To everyone's surprise, they recognize the voice of the head guard as Conan, who has double-crossed them and was just waiting for them to solve the puzzle so that he could get the honey. The bears come out on top against a fight with the barbearians, with Mama rescuing Shadowflow from the grasp of one of the barbearians, Termite using his Hacker skills to shoot a lazer at another, and Borra convincing the Black Orchid Honey bees to sting the remaining guards. With his dying breath, Conan warns them that the Bearoness will hunt them down. Armed with the most dangerous and expensive honey in the world, the bears make their way back to the clearing at the edge of the woods, where they realize they've just pulled off the most awesome honey heist the High Bear Nation has ever seen. ^summary [[Honey Heist Scenario]] ## The Rules This is a different type of RPG than most of us are used to. At this point, you don't need to know anything other than your name and the type of bear you are. Everyone is a different type of bear. Some are better at some things than others, but we'll get to those together later. You are bears. You can speak to each other, because you all speak Bear, and you can understand humans-- but speaking to the humans is a little dicey. They're not that smart, you know. Sometimes, if you're lucky, you can kind of grunt something that humans MIGHT understand. And some of you will be better at that than others. In general, the way it works is that I will give you a shared goal and set the scene. You tell me what you'd like to do, I'll ask you to do what's called a check to see how well you do it, and then I'll tell you the results. A check involves rolling a die that will determine your success or failure in doing something in the game, like breaking down a door or lying to a guard. To find out what type of activities you're good at, I'm going to ask everyone to choose a number from 2 to 5. A high number means you're better at being a Criminal, and a low number means you're better at being a Bear. This is your one Number. You can have the same Number as another person - there will definitely be some duplicates. If you want to do things like attack, run, climb, eat honey, scare people, or other things bears would be good at, I'll ask you to roll for Bear. That means you roll a d6 and compare your result to your Number. If you roll OVER your number, you succeed in doing what you were trying to do. If you want to do things that don't directly relate to being a bear, I'll ask you to roll for Criminal. That means you roll a d6, and if you roll UNDER your number, you succeed in doing what you were trying to do. So, if you decide your number is 2, you'll be VERY good at Bear-related things. That's because you'll be more likely to roll OVER your number. If you decide your number is 5, you're the opposite: you're very good at Criminal-related things, because you'll be more likely to roll UNDER your number. What's everyone's numbers? ## Strong start > You've been travelling for a while to get to just this point in the woods, with nothing more than a letter to guide you here. Yet the letter has described the location perfectly: a clearing at the very edge of the woods, just by the path to the human city you know is in the valley just below you. You can already see their lights, hear their chatter. Humans are noisy. > You each step into the clearing. Six of you, bears of different shapes and sizes. Yet presumably brought here for the same reason: the bear you know as Conan. > As you eye the other bears, a loud noise almost startles you. It's coming from a tree stump right in the middle of the clearing. When you look more closely, you see the outline of a mouth. You think it's carved into the rings until it starts to move. > "Привет, bears", says Conan's voice. You've never met the bear, but you recognize his voice from other missions he's given you. > "I'm glad you are all here. I'm sorry I could not be there to greet you personally. I am little... how you say... busy. > My sources tell me of great danger before you. The humans are having some sort of honey festival with many different varieties of honey, but one of them is called Black Orchid Honey. It is very rare honey with one dangerous property: any human that eats it turns into bear. " > This is very not good. нехорошо. That is why I call you. On the far end is a floor-length mirror. - Mirror shows the exact opposite of what stands before it. Gender or personality. And you wonder how many others there are like him, in the High Bear Nation. > You all lick your wounds, grab the honey jar, the beehive, and the Queen Bee, and sneak back out into the honey festival, only a little worse for wear. > Outside, the night is just starting. Where there were a few people wandering the stalls earlier, there are crowds. The people of the city of Hupperdook have finished their work and have come out to the festival. Some stalls shut down, and are replaced by vendors of light sticks and fireworks as the atmosphere shifts to something cele bratory. > You have no trouble sneaking out of the festival and back to the edge of the woods where you all met. You're bears in a human city. You have the most expensive and dangerous honey in the world in your paws, a beehive to make more, and you're not sure who you can trust-- other than each other. You've just pulled off the best bear honey heist the High Bear Nation has ever seen. And we'll end the game there. ## Secrets and Clues - [ ] Conan is the head of the barbearians and is masquerading as an officer of the High Bear Nation. In reality, he has been hired by the Bearoness, who wants to use the Black Orchid Honey to sieze control of the High Bear Nation. - [ ] The humans have no idea about the magical properties of Black Orchid Honey; they know only that it is an expensive and rare type of honey. - [ ] The honey festival is being used as a front for trafficking explosive honey. - [x] Conan the Barbearian has already had his barbearians make an attempt on the honey, but they were stumped by the puzzle, so he's waiting for the party to figure it out before he swoops in and grabs it for himself. - [ ] The Queen Bee is the real valuable, not the Black Orchid Honey itself. The Queen Bee is the mother of the Black Orchid honey bees and the focus of their communication. - [ ] Hupperdook is the center of the war effort because of their ability to produce gunpowder and other machines of destruction.
