# [[Sereas]] [On D&D Beyond](https://www.dndbeyond.com/characters/114348537) ![[Sereas.jpg]] ## PC BACKGROUND ### WHERE ARE YOU FROM? (*Just a suggestion not required) - *Name*: Desolation Keep, a fortress on the edge of a warzone. - *What is it like there?*: It was filled with refugees, soldiers, and their accidental families. Everyone old enough to hold a sword was given one, and survival and being able to defend yourself was of utmost importance. - *Parent(s)/Guardian*: I was a war orphan, like many many others, but it doesn't matter. The person I treated as my father is [[Borgan Darkslicer]], a brilliant, decorated general who taught me to fight. I would die for him in a heartbeat. - *Siblings/Important extended family*: I don't know any blood siblings, but Borgan's daughter, Circe, is as close to my sister as it can get. ### WHY ARE YOU HERE? [[Morba]], [[Toblob]]'s mother, was part of the group of clerics who tended to the wounded on the battlefield by Desolation Keep. Once, I snuck out to fight in battle despite my father's orders, and nearly died. She found my half-broken body on the battlefield, risked her life to take me back, and nursed me back to health. The scar on my cheek is from that day. I will never stop owing her! When she told me her son Toblob was missing, I dropped everything to help her. ## BACKSTORY everybody has one. (5-10 bullet points only please) - I grew up wanting to be a soldier, like every child in Desolation Keep. My father, too experienced in war, wanted a different life for me, so he apprenticed me to Old Stiny, the wizened runic tattooist of the Keep. He taught me to record the oral history of my people on skin. Instead of using magic items, I'll imbue my skin with arcane energy. - On the day that I snuck onto the battlefield and Morba found me, I was faced with my first [[Fearwalker]], [[The Dread Sovereign]] himself. He was a massive, hulking thing that looked into my eyes and gripped me with unimaginable fear. I was paralyzed in terror, even as he nearly slew me. I still have nightmares of it. - Morba was able to cure my wounds, but some residual nerve damage has dulled all my physical senses. I experience any sort of physical sensation as if it's muffled and distant. My lack of pain helps me keep going on the battlefield, but it also makes me imprudent. I'll do anything to truly feel something. - I was bullied as a child because I was a half-orc among orcs, and my other half is elven. I'm intensely magical, but I hate it. Among my people, only physical prowess matters, and magic is a way to cheat. - Desolation Keep was lost because of my mistake. My father asked me to deliver a message to the troops that I knew would sentence a particular company to their death. I'd fallen in love with a young orc soldier, [[Qamar Mehen]], who was in that company and didn't want him to die, so I purposely delivered the wrong message. Desolation Keep fell, catastrophically, and Qamar died anyway. I'm profoundly guilty because of that. ### ENEMIES/FRENEMIES - *One that is petty and personal. Why?* - *One that is a serious threat. Why?* [[The Dread Sovereign]] and his armies killed almost everyone at [[Desolation Keep]] that day, and continues to sow destruction where he goes. He must be stopped. ### PRIMARY GOALS - *What does your character want on the surface?* She wants to become a better fighter. - *Why do they want this?* She wants to use her strength to protect those who can't protect themselves. She wants to kill the Dread Sovereign. - *What do they want that they might not know until they grow?* To learn to deal with her emotions. - *Why do they want this?* Nerve damage has dulled her physical senses, but her emotions can be overwhelming for someone not accustomed to feeling. I think she'll need to learn to deal with emotions, as well as her magic, and accept them as part of who she is. ## Additional questions from GM - *What was the war over in Desolation Keep?* - *Is the war ongoing?* - *Is Borgan Darkslicer still a general?
