# [[003_20220505 Twelve Serves the King]]
## Session Summary
> [!tldr] [[003_20220505 Twelve Serves the King]]
> We opened up the coffin on the right and had to fight a vaguely female humanoid with many claw-like talons instead of hands. After we killed it, we heard a slight whirring from inside her skull. I split her skull open and found out that the skull itself was made of a soft metal, and housed a copper box inside the skull that was attached to the rest of the body through wires. When we removed the box from her head, unfortunately, the middle coffin started to open on its own!
>
> Out of the coffin came a male humanoid with a crown on its head. It had normal hands, and wielded a sword and shield. Unfortunately, it attacked me and injured me quite severely, leaving me running for the rest of the fight. I was forced to improvise from afar by throwing stones at it while Viorec bravely fended it off. I ran back to the coffin trying to find something that would help, but nothing did. I ran back JUST in time to witness Viorec being grappled by the undead king and crushed to unconsciousness. I somehow managed to deal the killing blow and nursed him to health as we rested for the night.
>
> Sometime during the night, while we took turns keeping watch, a creepy THING that I named Twelve approached us to offer his "service" to the "king and queen". It seemed quite keen on hands and feet in particular, and admitted that it had been exiled from its true home in the kingdom down below. He said there were many other "loyal subjects" and that someone named The Tinkerer had made him. We asked him to retrieve the undead king's crown to give us a moment to talk to each other. ^summary

## Log
[[Tomb of the Unseeables]]
Using a spell (_icy touch_) does not use up the rune.
I try to open the coffin on the right. It creaks and the stone moves. Out of the darkness comes another thing that shuffles out. [[The Unseeable Queen]]
![[knave-unseeable-queen.png]]
_Original art by the GM, [[Samuel Regandell]]._
Covered in a sort of membrane, under which things are moving. There is a vague skull shape, but there are no features on the face itself.
This one has bird claws with long talons. It moves slowly. However we still have the ice up (it lasts 10 minutes) and it does fall. The claw flails in Viorec's direction, but it falls and doesn't really get to connect.
- Round 1
- Viorec connects with it using his sword.
- I slice forward with my axe and take off the closest claw near Viorec. We've chopped off two of its limbs.
- Thing strikes at me and misses.
- Round 2
- I dodge and try to use its own momentum against it, but that doesn't work-- I roll really badly!
- Viorec attempts to attack, but misses as well.
- Round 3
- The thing stands on one leg. It tries to grab hold of Viorec with its claw, but he has his shield and it misses wildly.
- Viorec damages it with a 4, using his sword. The impact makes it shiver. The sword hits something hard inside.
- 12, but it's slightly off and doesn't hit. We don't hear any whirring sound, but the last time we heard it, it was very silent.
- Round 4
- It strikes at me as I try to move away, but I JUST duck out of range.
- Viorec cuts off its leg.
- I get the final blow!
Viorec cuts off its head completely. As we keep silent, we hear a whirring of two things-- both the things we killed. The previous one is a bit slower. I split open the skull, severing the membrane. The skull looks like it's not made of bone. It's not as hard as steel-- it's a softer metal. In the hollow inside the skull, there is something copper-like. I keep going, and wear down my axe by 1! But I expose the copper thing inside. It's a copper box embedded in the skull. It seems to be attached to the rest of the head by copper wires. We yank it free from the head. As we do that, the stone on the middle coffin starts moving!
Inside is similarly shaped, but it is male-shaped, a head taller than the others, and as it climbs out of the coffin, we see it has a crown on its head. It has normal human hands, and it has a sword and shield. [[The Unseeable King]]
[[Tomb of the Unseeables#The Eroded Statue]]: We go further south of this room, away from the entrance, to see what else we haven't investigated in this room. There is another passageway, about the same width as the one we entered to get here, and there is another room. In the centre of the room, there is a huge stone statue. It's a humanoid figure, tall enough to almost touch the ceiling. This chamber's ceiling is quite high. It is a dead end. This room is water damaged. The stonework of the ground is clearly damaged from the water as well. A side of the statue has been eroded by water and reveals a passageway underneath the statue.
- Round 1
- King uses his sword to slice me, and it's pretty freaking fast. I am almost completely dead.
- Viorec hits it on its neck, but doesn't do that much damage.
- I dodge out of the way.
- Round 2
- I grabbed a rock and threw it successfully at the king. 4 damage.
- Viorec attacks it and deals 7 damage!
- The King uses Viorec's momentum against him, but it fails because it hits the statue with a loud thud.
- Round 3
- Viorec attacks him again. He cuts through some of the membranous skin he has.
- I throw another stone! I do 2 damage. It gets a -1 to attack Viorec.
- King:
- Round 4
- Viorec does 5 damage to it.
- I miss both Viorec and the king with a stone.
- It goes for Viorec but misses.
- Round 5
- I throw another stone at its knee and break something. It falls to one knee.
- Viorec:
- King: Attacks at disadvantage and misses.
- Round 6
- King: Stands up on one leg and tries to hit Viorec, but misses again! His sword hits the stone like a bell and the blade is broken.
- Viorec: Misses. It throws away the broken sword and goes towards Viorec as if to hug him.
- I light my torch.
- Round 7
- King: Tries to grapple Viorec. Viorec is still immobilized.
- Viola: The inside of the sarcophagus contains a glittering of copper. There is treasure in here.
- Round 8
- King: It is crushing Viorec in its grasp. 3 damage.
- Me: I rush at the king and do 4 damage-- I aim for the arm but miss and sever the neck. I save Viorec, but he's still unconscious.
There are faint sounds coming up from the ground below the statue. Trickling water, distant sounds of ticking, like a clock that is ticking and the sound is travelling a large distance.
Viorec gives me his shield for now.
We take watch while we rest for the night. I hear the grinding of stone, but it goes away when I hear it. I wake Viorec for the next watch.
He hears a voice: "Is that the king?" Viorec says yes.
- "Have you come to be the king of the kingdom? That is great news." It's coming from the bottom right of the chamber. Something shuffles. "But I cannot go... you should do it... you must go. Is that the queen?"
- V: Yes
- "You shall be celebrated. You must go below... but I can't go... I wasn't fast enough. I didn't celebrate the kign. But now that the king is here, it is great news."
- V: Who are you?
- "I am nothing. I am your loyal subject."
- Created by whom?
- "By the Master that ticks below. But if you're the king, that's great news. Great news. I've been looking for the king."
- What were you supposed to do when you find the king?
- "Give him his crown. Help him sit on the throne."
I wake up to this noise.
- "The king makes bright."
![[knave-twelve.png]]
_Original art by the GM, [[Samuel Regandell]]._
It's a small creature. A baby's proportions, clawed feet and hands. Disproportionately big head, eyes in the wrong direction. It bows to Viorec. There's a tongue inside that's moving.
It reminds me of the first figurine, the one that was too terrible to look. It's a bit off-kelter.
"I'm Nameless". He likes to eat hands and feet. "I'm cast out.. I can't go back to the kingdom underneath."
Apparently he and the other loyal subjects ate the king!
How big is the kingdom below? "What you're in now is not real. It's for those who are not kings and queens. The actual realm is below. I am but a few days old."
- [[The Unseeables]] made him.
- Below is another tomb with vast riches. What's here are mere trinkets.
- The previous king wanted to be left alone.
I christen him "[[Twelve]]" because that's the number of claws it has on its hands and feet. I ask him to get the crown for the king, and he skitters off.
