We met a mercenary named Ekon who Blackback encouraged us to hire. We did so, and he turned out to be pretty handy in a fight. We went for the barrier of rubble where we had seen a Toy that was near a treasure chest. Micho, with his crossbow, managed to shoot a few times while Ekon and I were able to do melee attacks. Unfortunately, there was a second one whose hands reached out through the rubble to grab me! I nearly died. After Ekon and Micho finished them off, they nursed me back to health, but I've become traumatized by the situation. > > Micho and Ekon picked the lock of the treasure chest and found that it was filled with pepper: a substance that was incredibly rare. ^summary --- ## Recap ![[006_20220918#^summary]] --- ## Log Viorec, Val, and I went up to [[Blackback]]'s camp where Micho is. Blackback has redecorated. ![[knave-newcamp.png]] [[Val]] costs a copper a day, not a copper a week. It's raining. There's a new guy that's sitting next to Blackback. It's still daylight. I sell him the gem-encrusted dagger for 80 copper. We meet Blackback's friend, [[Ekon]]. Ekon is a middle-aged man who is a bit awkward. He has calloused hands and a back bent from a life of hard work. He's also wearing a gambeson and a wood axe. Blackback says he's a mercenary selling his blade to the highest bidder. He would cost us 7 coppers a week. We pay him. We go to the room with the Barrier of Rubble. - Pyramid of fallen stones. - You can climb up onto the top and look into the ceiling of the larger room. Initiative! - Round 1 - Micho shoots it for 7 damage, then hurries back down to us. - Ekon and I get ready! - We hear clawing at the stones. - Round 2 - The Thing comes towards us with a claw. - Ekon tries to hit it and misses. - I swing and miss! - Micho reloads. - Round 3 - Thing claws at the opening with its other claw and tries to hit me. Fails. - I do 8 damage and chop off one claw. - Ekon does 1 damage towards the other claw. - Micho shoots. - Round 4 - The Thing starts to come through and we see its faceless head. It attacks Ekon and misses. It's moving fast and it will be able to move its feet inside next turn. - Micho reloads. - Ekon attacks and deals 8 damage. - I tried to hit but fail! - Round 5 - Thing goes through. One leg is out of the hole. The other is still on the other side. It grabs me! - Micho kills it! I am not dead-- I'm at 1 HP, but I get -3 Wisdom. Micho and Ekon get the lockpicks from me and go to the next room to unlock the chest. It's filled with pepper, which is incredibly rare. I take a rest and am back at full, but I've spent some time sharing with Val that there was a man who once tried to rob me and that it reminded me of my recent encounter.
