# [[001_20221224 Can we sacrifice the healer]] ![[oubliette-arch.png]] ## Session Summary > [!tldr] [[001_20221224 Can we sacrifice the healer]] > The party (Head Banger the goliath barbarian, Van Healsing the water genasi druid, and Edalyn the astral elf rogue) were on their way to the village of Redtower when they heard some roachling bandits chittering away to each other by the ruins of an arch. Head Banger ran into the fray, immediately getting into a fight. The other two followed, and they soon killed all but the leader of the roachling bandits, Demeka, who said she'd been asked by someone named Cagoth-ze to look for his apprentice, named Tymon. She had a relic with her that was supposed to open a portal, but she couldn't figure out how to make it work. > > After the party killed Demeka, levelled up, and took a long rest, Edalyn sacrificed 10 years of her life to open a portal in the archway, and everyone went through. They found themselves in some sort of pocket dimension, where a boy named Tymon was chained to one of the pillars. They recognized him as the person they'd heard yelling for help in the split seconds that the portal opened when Edalyn hurt herself with a dagger before she figured out how to keep it open long enough to enter the dimension. > > The party let Tymon go, and he told them the story of The Memorians: a group of mages that had tried to perform a ritual that had backfired on them, sealing them forever in this place. He told them about something called The Forgotten, a spectral monster that haunted the Oubliette, and suggested that the party could get back out into Exandria if they sought the mages' help... if they were still alive. Everyone explored some chambers of the dimension, including a rickety stone bridge and a library. When Edalyn went to investigate an amulet on a body they found in the library, the corpse's eyes flew open and we stopped short of rolling initiative! ^summary --- ## Housekeeping - [x] Make sure Van Healsing has spells chosen. - You'll probably be levelling up to 2 today, which means Van Healsing, as a druid, will need to choose a subclass. Have a think about what you might choose-- maybe just pick something for today and then let me know before next week if you want anything from the Tome of Heroes and I'll need to put it on D&D Beyond for you to use. - Circle of Ash - Circle of Bees - Circle of Crystals - Circle of Sand - Circle of the Green - Circle of the Shapeless - Circle of Wind - [x] How do you pronounce "Edalyn"? EEdalyn %% [Owlbear Rodeo](https://www.owlbear.app/room/RkCZb_90ktY5/Christmas2022) %% ## The PCs - [[Head Banger]] - [[Van Healsing]] - [[Edalyn]] ## Strong start - You are in the [[Iothia Moorland]] in the wastes of Xhorhas, on the continent of Wildemount. - You've been together for about a month now-- long enough to trust each other, but not long enough to know everything about each other. Could you describe yourselves? - Head Banger: not related to [[Plank King]]... nothing going on there. - Van Healsing grew up in the forest and is about knowledge, socially awkward - Edalyn (Eda for short): witchlight hand at The Witchlight Carnival, but really likes shiny things and treasure. She will loot everything she sees. - Why have you come together? - The nearest non-orc settlement is a place called [[Redtower]]. You've been travelling for a while, and it would be nice not to have to defend yourselves against roving orc herds for a while. You think Redtower might be a good place to restock, find jobs, or chase up some of your personal quests. ## Scenes - [x] Finding the archway, and overhearing the conversation of four bandits ([[The Greyrunners]], including [[Dameka]]). > [!NOTE]- The Archway > The weathered stone arch, a looming structure almost as tall as the nearby trees, sits in the center of the lifeless clearing, one side sunken deeper into the soil than the other. A withered black vine wrapped around it is cold and unyielding to the touch, as though melded with the stone itself. Partial engravings line the arch, too old and worn to decipher. - [x] Bandits attack! - [x] Exploring the archway and [[Light of Memoria]]. [[Tymon]] calls out to the party at sunset, from the archway. - [x] Entering [[The Oubliette]] and finding Tymon. - [x] Finding one [[Spectral memory]] ([[Nevena]]) ## Secrets and Clues - [x] Tymon, the so-called "apprentice" of [[Gellert the Gruesome]] and former bandit, went dark a few days ago and hasn't been seen since. Gellert asked [[Dameka]] and her crew to look for him. - [ ] [[Gellert the Gruesome]] is Gellert Holzanger, the last of a line of deep gnomes from [[The Underdark]]. - [x] There is a [[Divine Gate]] that keeps gods, both [[Prime Deities]] and [[Betrayer Gods]], out of [[Exandria]]. - [x] The Divine Gate is powered by magical strands of power, called ley lines, that Gellert discovered near the humble town of [[Redtower]]. He built his [[Scarlet Citadel]] at the intersection of many of these ley lines, to better study them. ==Van Healsing== - [x] [[The Memorians]] were a group of dissenters of the teachings of [[ttrpgs/The Slayers Five/The Luxon|The Luxon]]. In particular, they believed that reincarnation was unnatural, and instead, as necromancers themselves, believed that the living and the dead could live together in harmony forever. - [x] The Memorians built the arch of Memoria, as well as the Light of Memoria, in an attempt to use them both in a ritual to bring their ancestors back from the dead. - [x] The Memorians' ritual went wrong because some of their ancestors had already been brought back by The Luxon. Instead, they summoned twisted specters and wraiths. - [ ] The Memorians sealed themselves into [[The Oubliette]] along with the haunted creatures they'd inadvertently summoned, so that nobody would be harmed by their mistake. - [x] Tymon got trapped in The Oubliette and can't find his way out. He'll die if the party don't manage to save him. - [x] One can use the [[Light of Memoria]] to open a portal to [[The Oubliette]], but they must sacrifice 10 years or 10% of their lifespan, whichever is greater. - [x] There are rumours of a legendary [[Scarlet Citadel]] that was built near the village of Redtower. It's in ruins now, but the rumours say there are riches still to be had underneath the ruins... ==Head Banger== - [x] You've heard stories in taverns about a relic that contains a giant, brilliant blue gemstone that may or may not be real. If the stories ARE to be believed, some group of musty old elves created it a long time ago used it to open a portal... to where, nobody knows. ==Edalyn== ## Locations - [x] [[The Oubliette#1 The Arch]] - [ ] [[Redtower]] ## NPCs - [x] [[Tymon]] - [x] [[Nevena]] - [ ] [[Stefanya]] - [ ] [[Ivon]] ## Monsters ### The Greyrunners ✅ [[Dameka]] is a Roachling Skirmisher, and her other three companions are roachling bandits.
