# 08_20201024 Getting to Blacklake District
## Session Summary
After the battle with the aberrant monsters, we looted the dead orc and found two pouches, containing a magical die and a dreamthief doll. We continue to a series of natural caverns underneath the sewers and the river, where we come across flaming skeletons dressed in tattered but noble clothing. We let them pass and eventually make it to Blacklake District. We meet up with the other Graycloaks at a safehouse I know. Cyriac tells us he's found a ledger that proves Neverember is not of the Alagondar line. We recount our experiences and Gloomtoes shows special interest in the "Master(s)" that may be hiding underneath the city, in the sewers. ^summary
## Recap
![[07_20201011 Fighting aberrations to help orcs#^summary]]
## Log
- Can hear rushing water ahead
- Sewer system slopes down to the river
- We looted the orc that had died and was being dragged
- small pouch
- 23 silver - taken by Ka'ira.
- pearls - did an Arcana check of 20 to detect magic - they are not magical. Gave them to Maestro.
- die - magical essence with an Arcana check of 19
- [x] What is the die? How can I determine what it does? #[[ttrpgs/Order of the Wandering Mind/Agenda]] [[Next Actions]]
- White orc horn - Ka/ira took this.
- bigger pouch
- cleaned parts of various monsters: fang, horns, black leathery skin - something like trophies of aberrations, because those parts look unnatural
- [x] Check monster parts for magic. #[[ttrpgs/Order of the Wandering Mind/Agenda]] [[Next Actions]]
- cleaned monster parts #[[Carrying (Xionerys)]]
- Dreamthief doll
- Bigger pouch from the orc that died #[[Carrying (Xionerys)]]
- hand-sized cloth and straw doll with a crudely made face, sack with straw in it. But the hair on the doll looks real. Like a voodoo doll.
- Orc has blue and white face paint.
- You can exit onto the river - there used to be grates preventing this but I know of passageways to go one level lower to some natural caverns that let us cross the river. Which way?
- semi-hidden trap door
- Xio shows the way. We take the natural caverns below the sewers and the river.
- We hear singing up ahead
- Six [[Blazing Skeletons]] walking in formation: 2 x 3. First two skeletons are on a red fire. The other four are keeping behind them. In front of the two skeletons is another skeleton wearing what looks like royal robes that are now tattered and is singing.
- "Where are you, our brethren? What will I do without you? Oh no not here." Weird voice.
- Four skeletons are carrying bodies of humanoids that have clothes.
- "We will be together again, our clan. Where did you go? Why did you leave me?"
- We extinguish our lights and wait for them to pass. Bodies are mostly humans. The clothes seem extraordinary. They seem to be richer. Dirty and old, but not as old as the singing skeleton's robes.
- We find the exit into more sewers that are more damaged and not maintained.
- We go to a safehouse that is a manor.
- Blacklake District
- completely different
- Houses here are grander than in Protector's Enclave - they are massive and made of imported stone. Most survived the eruption. They are more like manors.
- We can see Blacklake to the north. There are legends about what's found in Blacklake. Sometimes creatures come out of the lake to take kids that are then never seen again.
- We can see Castle Never. It stands near the river. We can see the Hall of Justice because it stands on a cliff on the other side.
- We can see the [[Shard of Night]]. It is an old wizard's tower. It's a floating tower of black stone.
- Other towers: [[Fallen Tower]] and [[Cloak Tower]] to the east, where the orcs live.
- We can see Fisher's Float/earth mote and the Pirates' Skyhold.
- No guards
- Fewer people walking around, but they're less fearful and they look like they can take care of themselves - more so than those in the Protector's Enclave.
- Someone is speaking loudly, saying it's time for Neverwintans to act and take back the city from Neverember. Others have gathered around him, agreeing with what he's saying.
- "Aren't you tired of paying high taxes? What are they used for? They're used to hire mercenaries who abuse their power, who only do [[Somangolt]] or [[Neverember]]'s bidding."
- "Those taxes are used to protect you from the chasm and the orcs!" -- group of two or three people who look like mercenaries.
- "Neverwinter used to be a place for skilled people, but now we don't have enough money for our health or our materials."
- Mercenaries: "This Neverember that you speak so lowly of is creating trade (with [[Luskan]] and cities like the [[Moonshae Islands]], [[Baldur's Gate]], [[Waterdeep]]). All because of Neverember."
- "It's better to have a city we build with our own hands!"
- We reach the agreed upon safehouse.
- Reona appears.
- It's an unfinished manor house.
- Gloomtoes and Cyriac are there too.
Cyriac found something important: a ledger that "we" stole on the way to Neverember.
Neverember's claim is that [[Lord Vers Never]] married [[Lady Myrtria Ember]]. Lord Never is a noble from Waterdeep, while Lady Ember is an [[Alagondar]]. Neverember claims to have been born of them. However, the ledger shows that Lady Ember died before Neverember was supposedly born. Signed by magistrates of Neverwinter. Proof that his claim is false. He is not a member of that family. ^f2b00a
- Lord Never, lord of Waterdeep - we could go there to get more information
- ledger is sealed by a guild in the government of Waterdeep
I can touch Syrinx! Dragonslayer sword! (Kuya asked for my alignment before saying I could touch it.)
Voodoo doll - everyone says it's a [[ttrpgs/Order of the Wandering Mind/Dreamthief doll]], a child's doll. This doll helps get good dreams and prevent bad dreams and things from infecting your dreams. Kid's toy. Most people have had bad dreams about strange, otherworldly things. Gloomtoes has one too.
- Gloomtoes's dreams are filled with dreadful song.
- I'll take the doll.
- Gloomtoes listens to stories of the aberrations and skeletons.
- Gloomtoes reacts when we suggest a "Master(s)" may be "underneath the city". He was drawn to Neverwinter years ago because of this song. Ka'ira and Maestro sing the skelly song for him. It's not what he's heard. He's heard something that's like a thousand voices. He's heard it in different parts of the city but can't find the source.
- I tried to convince him not to go on his own, but I only rolled an 8 for Diplomacy.
- [[Vierlene]] - cook in [[Phandalin]] who joined them. She got taken away by two demon vultures.
- Bob - companion, he and [[Hill]] were [[ttrpgs/Order of the Wandering Mind/Red Brand]] members (mercenaries). Bob is in Phandalin to protect his family from monsters.
- [[Krieger]] is in [[Helm's Hold]] resesarching how to fight demons and weapons used to defeat them.
- I rolled a 16 and regained the intelligence I lost from the [[House of Knowledge]]!
- [x] Examine Maestro for any trace of the spellplague. [[Next Actions]] #[[ttrpgs/Order of the Wandering Mind/Agenda]]
- [x] Ask Gloomtoes, Reona, and Cyriac if they can keep an eye out for the cart that Ka'ira and Maestro have at the Round Rump, Ka'ira's armor, and my books. [[Next Actions]] #[[ttrpgs/Order of the Wandering Mind/Agenda]]

- [x] Ask Gloomtoes if it's possible Cymril could have been telepathically controlled, and how to avoid becoming telepathically controlled. Was he in the city on that day? Did he know any other psions that were in town at that time? #[[ttrpgs/Order of the Wandering Mind/Agenda]] [[Next Actions]]
- [x] Ask Gloomtoes if he has any good rituals he could teach me or I could copy. #[[ttrpgs/Order of the Wandering Mind/Agenda]] [[Next Actions]]
