# [[106_20220115 Oofel the Doofel]] ## Session Summary > [!info] [[106_20220115 Oofel the Doofel]] > We killed off the vrock and began to look for a place to spend the night. As Maestro cradled the body of Father Tyson, I tried to cast Leomund's Tiny Hut, but a voice came out of the darkness to tell me to stop casting. When I continued to try anyway, lightning came from the heavens to stop me. He called himself Oofel, the Befouler, Spawn of Gal'vanoth the Plague-Maker. He was a demon that had assumed the form of another creature whose life it had consumed. He was digging up bodies in the soil, some with tattoos, and asked Maestro to return Father Tyson's body to the top of the tower. Maestro did so, but it was still not enough. Oofel wanted the body re-impaled on top of the spikes. Despite that, whatever he was hoping would happen did not happen. > > Maestro was enraged, despite Eraithe and Keren saying that the body was just an illusion. We began to attack Oofel, and he unexpectedly started to cry. He left the river and went out of our sight. ^summary %% [Video](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U0L7WIZ0F24) %% ## Recap of last session ![[105_20220108 How to inhale demons especially vrocks#^summary]] --- ## Log It's still AX 21 - we took a long rest and woke up, but it's still 9 pm. The place here is different -- the sky, the earth. The rocks are brightly coloured. There's no sign of life besides thorny plant-like things. Ka'ira rushed into the fray, engaging the almost dead vrock. It says "We'll see each other soon". I ask it where we are, and it says "The Abyss". - Round 3 - Me - Standard: Sacred Flame/Healing Word - Reflex is 23 - 14 radiant - Minor: Sustain Moment of Glory I kill it and it disappears it in smoke that goes into the ground. A rock-like object falls to the ground, with its bones. [[The Abyss]] has multiple layers. Each layer is manifested by whoever it lord of that layer, so each one is different. It's not the same as the yellow trees in the orange tear that Maestro saw. Guardians/orbs so far - Goblins in a desert - Zombies indoors in dark passageway - Gnoll camp in a desecrated temple - Underground dwarves - Barren wasteland (Abyss) Thunder overhead is louder than before. We also hear a soft keening sound somewhere in the darkness. It's an irregular sound, like a voice or the wind going through reeds and hollow logs. But there's no wind. The thunder becomes lightning. Reflex saving throw! The damage that Eraithe would take gets divided among us. His sword absorbs it and the lightning arcs across to everyone. Keren looks at [[Father Tyson]]'s corpse and says that he's not real. Common: "Quiet, no casting". We hear another voice. A bright purple shaft of life lances down from the heavens, beneath the yellow clouds and interrupts my ritual casting. - [[Vierlene]] I ask the voice if it needs shelter and explain that I was just trying to protect us from the lightning. The voice doesn't respond, but we smell cooked food. It seems familiar to both Ka'ira and Maestro. We follow it, but whatever it is seems to go away. We try to call out to it, and we see a figure. It's 8 feet tall, covered in black skin and white fur. It has a dog-like face. It has four slender arms. It seems wary of us. It's holding a rod - something it could not have made itself, with its fingers. "How are you here? Where is everyone?" ![[fr-dog-demon.jpg]] It repeats, "No casting" and walks away. Demons' forms are wildly variable. They consume the life of wherever they are and assume those forms. Even two demons of the same species will not necessarily look alike. This is a demon but not anything I've encountered. It seems to have assumed the form of a species that lives in the dark or underground, but I'm not quite sure what species. Most demons only understand Abyssal, but this one spoke Common. We hear it running and maybe digging on the ground. It's also talking to itself. Maestro tries digging too, and sees a human arm with black tattoos. Maestro tries to talk to it, but another shaft of purple lightning goes to him from the sky. It's purple fires. Spawn of Gal'vanof. You face Oofel the Befouler, spawn of [[Galvanoth the Plaguemaker]]. Maugwraithe feels cursed, as if an eye is watching him. The demon wants Maestro to return Tyson's body. I extract name but fail. It curses me, but doesn't do any more damage. The demon is using eldritch energy. Maestro remembers Vierlene. - 28 Maestro - 26 Demon - 26 Keren - 21 Eraithe - 20 Xio - 17 Ka'ira Oofel does a burst 3 attack on us against Will. 8 psychic damage and cursed. We feel the heat and smell the fumes. - Maestro: Leaves Tyson's body at the base of the tower and runs back. - Oofel: Deals 5 psychic damage to those that tried to attack him. It casts something and everyone but Maestro loses vision and light. I can't see anything at all. He is bloodied. - Ka'ira': 19 radiant damage. Breathes on him too. Oofel's resistance is now acid. - Her perk is to be able to do an insight check to learn their motivations. He is experiencing conflicting emotions: he wants to explore the world, but also wants to rule this "kingdom" - Me - Standard: Fire Burst - Minor: Sustain - Eraithe hits! - Keren hits with an attack and helps Ka'ira hit Oofel. - Round 8 (Escalation 1) - Maestro: Attacks him - Oofel: Stops crying.
