# 32_20201213 The Spider Spire
## Session Summary
After Hill leaves to scout ahead, Declan follows him, saying his farewells to us. He wants to find a way out of the city and back home. Hill returns to tell us that a [[Spire Spider]] seems to be what killed the mercenaries, and it chased them down the hill and possibly to the Protector's Enclave. There are very few of the mercenaries left, and they're helping their wounded. Hill thinks he can sneak past them, so we ask him to go to Madame Rosene to deliver a note, and then come back to us safely.
Down two members, we head back to explore the spire close to the servants' entrance, where we suspect the spider is hiding. The spire is full of webs, making progress slow. I summon [[Fuego the Fire Warrior]] to clear the path, and we are able to move faster... until Fuego is attacked. ^summary
## Recap

## Log
- We just sent Hill to scout, and Declan goes with him to try to leave the city.
- Declan tells Maestro that he and [[The Order of the Ebon Hand]] will probably go to [[Helm's Hold]] to stay there for a while and recover from the demon attacks.
- I brew a [[Potion of Healing]]. I rolled a 20, which means it cost 42 gp worth of alchemical reagents to create.
- Hill comes back chuckling. The mercenaries ran to the [[Protector's Enclave]]. A few of them are left at the bottom of the path, where something attacked them and ran into the city. Sounded like a giant spider. Fey spider (blue and white) but bigger. It came through before the army came up to the castle. It was surrounded by a mist that was freezing cold. It bit two of them, dragged one, appeared on the bridge, and they lost sight of it. Likely the [[Spire Spider]].
- Pressed for time, we ask Hill to go to [[Madame Rosene]] with a note to inform her of recent developments and to ask for reinforcements.
- We have uncovered more evidence that might prove Ka'ira and Maestro are the heirs, given enough time. (genealogy)
- We have the crown and Galadim.
- Please ask nobles to send forces if possible.
- Please rally the Sons and have them come to Castle Never. We can give them armor and weapons.
- No Declan and no Hill!
- We go back towards [[The Spider Spire]]. The passageway curves a bit to the left, following the roughly circular outline of the castle.
- From the east, it curves to the north and curves a bit more to the east again. Before it curves down, it leads to (presumably) a spire. This is the direction that Ka'ira heard clicking before of a hard carapace against stone.
- Corridor has some webs, but something recently pushed through it.
- Kind of makes an inverted U.
- We are at around 1 'o clock on the map
- Webs are still intact past the door
- Galadim says there were many spires: one each for the deacon, mage, king's spire
- Galadim has turned his arm into a spike, sword, ??
- We open the door.
- Two or three windows around, near the ceiling, but they're webbed shut.
- Walls and floor are covered with webs.
- Vaguely humanoid shape covered in webs.
- Clicking coming from upstairs, and then it stops.
- The webs are covering stuff - not sure what's inside them.
- Maestro sends his owl. He sees more of what we've seen downstairs before a gigantic spiderlike face with fangs bites it, killing the owl.
- Monster check:
- It looks like a spider, but its face was smaller than giant spiders that Maestro has encountered before.
- About the size of Ka'ira's head. It seems almost humanoid, but definitely spidery.
- Ka'ira and Maestro get the body. It was just a humanoid skeleton, and it rips in half when Ka'ira tries to pull it out. The bones seem very brittle.
- The webs make it difficult terrain.
- Ka'ira attempts to hack at the webs, but it takes too long.
- I summon [[Fuego the Fire Warrior]] to help us move more quickly.
- Fuego blazes the trail in front of us, leading the way above the stairs to the next floor... where he is promptly attacked.
