# 50_20210207 The Phase Spider ## Session Summary Chand Stamaraster, the Deva priest at the Hall of Justice, had just finished telling us that there was a missing third crystal piece in the temple that needed to be found when we began to hear a commotion outside. We ran out and saw that the ice phase spider was advancing towards some villagers. We sprang into action and engaged it in battle, with Maestro and Ka'ira moving peasants away to safety. However, the spider proved to be quite a difficult foe. A bell sounded in the distance, seeming to draw the spider to it. Wounded, we allowed the spider to run away. Sarthos ran towards us, chasing the spider. He stopped to warn us that his squad was coming after him, and that we should probably hide. Heeding his words, we ducked into the sewers just before the thundering steps of the mercenaries echoed in the street above us. ^summary ## Recap of last session ![[49_20210131 How to fix the Hall of Justice#^summary]] ## Log 2/3 of the glass shards are missing from the [[Hall of Justice]]. [[Paladin]] Orders of Tyr - [[Knights of the Merciful Sword]] ([[Ka'ira]] is part of this) - against demons - [[Knights of the Holy Judgment]] - short human paladin is part of this - There's a prison in the [[Hall of Justice]]. It's a person named [[Iarno]]. [[Chand Stamaraster]] is surprised to find that [[Ka'ira]] and [[Maestro]] know who [[Iarno]] is. There aren't enough clerics who are serving in the temple. There's a commotion outside. People are shouting. Thraid leaves and runs outside to help the people of Neverwinter. Chand instructs acolytes to keep expensive things and walks out of the temple. Faint outline of a gigantic spider, and a fog is starting around it. It's going towards one of the peasants. The [[Ice Phase Spider]] is 4 x 5, reach 3. It's not really in this world. It has a faded outline. It's very similar to the phase spiders that the twins have fought in the Feywild before. There's something different about it. It's covered with bulbous ice armor - something normal ones don't have. Obscures vision with the blizzard. Absorbs warmth around it, burst 5 vs Fort. 15 damage. Peasants turn white, then blue, and frozen in place. It hits Thraid and also drains one healing surge from her. Peach-colored ball that was covered in ice is still attached to it, but is exposed. Its armor is less icy, reducing its armor. Ka'ira: Gets one peasant to safety and yells at the others. Snowflake: Breathes cold on it. Reflex 18. Fey spider actually takes more damage from cold. It gets vulnerable 5 to all damage. Gloomtoes: Memory hole on spider. Misses and hits Thraid for 12 and slows her. ## Round 2 Xio: sustain Visions and try to move it down, extract truename. Got its [[Truenames Known|truename]]!! Normal animal name. But failed on Visions. Thraid: Dragon Frosts again vs Fort. Does 12 cold damage and pushes the target one square. +10 plus it's vulnerable Maestro: invisible Eraithe: still gone Fey spider: Has an aura 2. All attacks have -2 because of the blizzard. You are subjected to an attack vs Fortitude if you stay in the aura and slides two squares. Moves away. Minor to teleport away as well. Saved from Snowflake's vulnerability 5. [[Thraid]] is bloodied at around 32 damage. Gloomtoes: slides phase spider down to the ground. Ka'ira: Tries to get peasants to run. Snowflake: enters aura (24 vs fort hits, 5 cold) ## Round 3 Maestro: perception check but doesn't hear any mercenaries coming. Xio: Fire burst with sympathy?, healing word on Thraid, 28 fire damage. insubstantial, so damage is halved. reduces its AC and heals!! it Thraid saves against blinded and restrained. Maestro throws a handaxe and saves against blinded and restrained. He is now invisible. Fey spider's aura stops you from being able to take reactions. became corporeal. Thraid's Fort is >19 Fey spider: Necrotic damage Ka'ira: Charges and yells at others to run. Gloomtoes: Mind shadow, moves back 5. Snowflake: saves ## Round 4 Eraithe: Marks. does not save. blinded. Thraid's fort is >22. Thraid: cold damage to it: 22 damage. Xio: thunderwave (failed) Fey spider: moves into the hall of justice. Ka'ira: moving towards the fight Gloomtoes: Mind block vs Will, hits. Snowflake: readies action ## Round 5 Maestro: 100 leaves, uses an action point to make it advantage. He bursts one of the peach balls. Not yet born spiderlings come out of the peach balls, dead. Thraid: Hits it again for 22 damage and aura increases to 4. It becomes heavily obscured. Xio: I am restrained and blinded. Fey spider is resistant to radiant. All 8 damage reduced to 0. I still get 5 temp HP though. bite as reaction: 22 damage! And it confused me. I spent a surge to avoid getting a permanent injury from being bloodied! Eraithe: Falcon's Mark vs Reflex Spider: drains warmth from everyone, deals 5 necrotic damage and takes one surge. I have one surge left. Aura becomes range 2 now. No healing though. Ka'ira: Learns that something froze it and it somehow survived and adapted to it. fails save. restrained and blinded - probably related to assasin of the black bolt Gloomtoes: memory hole Snowflake misses: ac of spider is >22 Bell in the distance coming towards this place ## Round 6 Maestro: shifts and moves away, heals Thraid Eraithe: saves, readies an action Thraid: throws liquid fire at the spire. 24 vs reflex. 12 healing to spider, AC reduced. Parts of the fire seem to cloak Thraid. Xio: invisible and moved around. Spider: Phases and turns incorporeal. Maestro takes an opportunity attack and hits its current AC of 22. Deals it 5 damage but it's resistant to melee damage and takes no damage because it's phasing. - Eraithe takes an opportunity attack but doesn't make it. Ka'ira: saves Gloomtoes: natural 1 and gives the spider + to saving throws and defense against spells for one round. Snowflake: saves ## Round 7 Xio: Second wind (while invisible), moved out. Spider moves towards the bell. [[Sarthos]] moves towards us! "Has the spider been here?" "My squad is coming. You'd better leave before they arrive." # Plans for next session? Ka'ira wants to leave to find the other paladin. Maestro: Follow up with [[Madame Rosene]]. Help stabilize [[Protector's Enclave]] before leaving. Get crowned and then maybe the guilds and nobles will be able to rule Neverwinter without us.
