# 52_20210213 Separate Adventures ## Session Summary Maestro, Xio, and Eraithe continued to trudge through the sewers. On the second leg of their journey, they came across a Blood Rot Ooze that seemed to have been feeding recently on animals it had come across. Maestro sustained an injury on his right arm, but they were luckily able to outrun it. Unable to continue to the Blacklake District with the Ooze in their way, they took a short rest in the sewers while contemplating their next move. Meanwhile, Ka'ira, Snowflake, and Gloomtoes spoke to the town crier, Cadu, and bought torches and a tinderbox from Juliana at Juliana's Mart. Ka'ira wanted to go to the Round Rump to see if their cart was still there, and encountered two pairs of mercenaries along the way. She was able to convince the first pair that she was just a traveler looking for a job, but the second pair recognized Syrinx and began to forcibly take her to Neverember. Recognizing that they could not be convinced to do otherwise, Ka'ira fought her way from their grasp with help from Snowflake and Gloomtoes, and ended up escaping into a nearby sewer grate. ^summary ## Recap of last session ![[51_20210213 Aboveground and belowground#^summary]] --- ## Log Second leg of journey in the sewers. Completely dark in some areas because we're farther away from the city above. There's a lot of refuse. There's a manhole that takes us deeper, and it give us passage under the river. Smells differently. Less refuse, air is more stale, and it's quieter. Perception checks: 23 (me), 34+ (Maestro), 13 (Eraithe). There are trails of reddish slime on the ground. The air is starting to smell of fresh blood. The normal dampness of the wall and floor is punctuated by pinkish slime in streaks on the floor. They look like a snail moved through here. It looks like something bigger, away from us. It's not a continuous trail. It comes and goes. The slime is not blood; it's just pink-colored. We proceed trudging through the tunnel, with my light up. We're not stealthing, but we're watching out for other signs of life. There are lichens on the ceiling. Eventually, we notice that the slime pools are getting bigger. We see a big bundle of slime our size by the wall. Unlike the [[Gelatinous Cube]], it doesn't have a shape. No extremities or face. But the scent of blood becomes very strong. Something's moving inside the slime. There are some solid things. It's bubbling and reacts to our presence with the light shining on it. They seem to be decaying parts of animal or people. Religion - these kinds of things were the result of having many deaths and are infused with necrotic energy. Some semblance of un-life. Made from dead and decaying bodies. It's called a [[Blood Rot Ooze]]. It feeds on the blood of the living to sustain itself. It also keeps the part of its victims inside. These things are mindless creatures that just crave blood. They're made by powerful necromancers or places where there's a lot of death or necrotic energy, or access to one of those lower planes where energy is leaking through them. They use acid to digest their food. Blood Rot Ooze -61 Extract name, but it failed. Erathe marks it. Slime: Tries to engulf Maestro with 26 vs Reflex. 10 damage. It wraps around him and squeezes it. Grappled. Minor: Paint, 24 vs Fortitude. It is so evil and anti-life that he takes damage from it. 14 necrotic damage and lose a healing surge. Maestro gets an injury. Fractured right arm: - to things that use that arm. Round 2 Maestro: Act of the Flashing Storm. Attack, then Teleport. 21 damage Erathe: resist 5 to necrotic damage for us, 9 damage and target gains vulnerability to necrotic. Xio: failed Moment of Glory and Grasping Shadows, run away Slime: attacks Erathe. 30+ vs Reflex. Round 3: Erathe - fey step Maestro - runs away, tries to hit Xio: failed on Thunderwave, healing word on Eraithe +11 (26) We run away and easily outrun it. Ka'ira!! Human town crier saying that [[Neverember]] said it's under control. Ka'ira tries to convince him to say that Ka'ira and Maestro saved 9 civilians. His name is [[Cadu]]. [[Juliana's Mart]]: Ka'ira can't find Juliana. The store is open. She has glasses and comes out behind some boxes. Ka'ira bought some crates from her some time ago. Ka'ira wants to buy torches as a source of fire. 1 touch is 1 pound and 1 silver piece. Ka'ira tells her she's Ka'ira Alagondar. Juliana is a gnome. She's a bit forgetful and distracted. Gloomtoes is blunt and not tactful. Ka'ira whistles her way to the [[Round Rump]]. She runs into some mercenaries. She convinces them she's nobody important but they ask her if she's looking for work. Go to the [[Moonstone Mask]] if she wants work. Her name is [[Sabine]]. Ka'ira encounters more mercenaries (smarter than the previous ones) on her way to the Round Rump. They recognize [[Syrinx]]!! They ask her to come with them. They're bringing her to [[Neverember]]. Standard mercenary loadout: rod (fabled new weapons), whistle, bells on their sides. Ka'ira tries to escape from the grab, but they knock her on the head. She's now bloodied, and she has a head injury. Staff guy identified Syrinx. Sword guy is the one who's been talking to her. "It's happening again! I've heard of this!" - They're definitely talking about the mass charm! Snowflake does a Bite attack for 14 damage on the sword guy. Kaira casts Divine Reverence on them, dazing them. (one action only, can't flank, grants combat advantage) 13 damage to sword guy. Bloodied at -37 damage. Ka'ira escapes the grab. Round 2 Sword guy says "Call them!". and uses his whistle. Quarterstaff guy uses the whistle. and hits her for 10 damage. Gloomtoes does Betrayal again, and the quarterstaff guy misses and fumbles - deals himself an ongoing 1 damage. Snowflake does 8 cold damage on the quarterstaff guy and he gains vulnerable 5 damage, save ends. Sword guy attempts to leave, and Ka'ira takes an opportunity attack and does 12 damage to him. Snowflake bites his head off, dealing 19 damage. Ka'ira lets the quarterstaff guy leave and hides in the sewers. They all stealth to try and be quiet. Snowflake (20), Ka'ira (17), Gloomtoes (10). Other mercenaries come by. "What happened to [[Atounic]]? Where's [[Tolew]]? Where'd he go? First the spider, then this. What keeps killing us? Talk to the people and ask them what they saw" Ka'ira hears the cries of people who have been interrograted. The mercenaries are hurting them to try and get information. Similarity betweens spider and cube: they both took surges. ## Next session - Rest - Talk to Madame Rosene - Talk to Mordai to see if Sabine will be amenable to being bought off - Figure out where Cyriac is - Pirates Skyhold
