# 69_20210515 Rescuing Keren ## Session Summary We met another nothic plague gazer who was intrigued by our resilience to its prying mental abilities and was willing to give us some information. We learned that the blue crystal fortress is called Twisted Fane. Maestro spotted a pouch that fell on top of a stone pillar, which I retrieved with my mage hand. It contained magical boots along with rations. While scouting with Lydia, Maestro also saw an unconscious humanoid that he recognized as Keren, a Harper agent they'd met at Phandalin. He said he'd been sent to investigate Cymril's death, rescue Reona, and find out what happened to Ka'ira and Maestro. I gave him Cymril's Harper pin to win his trust, and then he agreed to give me his truename. ^summary ## Recap of last session ![[68_20210509 Stepping on Eldritch Ground#^summary]] --- ## Log 9am First [[Foulspawn]]: [[Mockery Foulspawn|Mockery]] Second Foulspawn: Mockery - whispering in language we don't know Third Foulspawn (the one whoes face opened and screamed psychically): [[Grue Foulspawn|Grue]] - came out of the walls The chamber looked more like a mouth or a heart than a chamber. The Grue moved into it and got a small creature from the organ in the center. Snowflake breathed on it. Invidoo runs away screaming, a [[Nothic plague gazer]] coming towards him. The plague gazer doesn't immediately attack us - he talks to us and engages us in conversation. He "has heard" of us. He's surprised that we have come here willingly - most humanoids have to be taken here. It's foolish of us. [[Twisted Fane]] is the name of the fortress. Or at least what they've started calling it. Incubation sacs The Nothic Plague Gazer recognizes that Ka'ira is part-demon. It is so interested that Ka'ira is afraid of hurting us and cares for us. When Ka'ira asks if all prisoners are kept in the incubation sacs, it seems afraid of answering the question. But it answers - no, they're usually not put in the incubation sacs. Can see through invisibility and illusions. Ka'ira and Maestro try to bring the bodies of the foulspawns we've gotten back to the cave. Maestro sees a small pouch fall onto the stone column at that intersection. Lydia sees a [[Grell Strangler]] carrying an unconscious body, 30 feet away, going towards the crystal. Maestro tells me about the pouch on the stone pillar. I use mage hand to feel around for it, and an eye shows up on the pillar! As big as a crocodile's eyes. I paint the eye with my red paint. We get the pouch. There are rations for three days, 1 pair of manacles, partially eaten bread, a dagger in its sheath. On the blade is the familiar symbol of Asmodeus. Used pair of short black boots. There are designs of leaping arcs of lightning and wild winds on the boots. DC 11 check on Will while we rest. Teeth grow on the entrance The lightning boots are magical! They resize to fit Ka'ira's feet. You turn into lightning where you are, choose a point, go to that point, and damage everything in between. Storm Step Boots. Daily Standard Action. I picked up the Asmodeus dagger with sheath. We attack the teeth that have shifted into place, keeping us in the mouth cave. We get free, and Maestro sends Lydia out. Lydia notices that in the alleyway in the eastern passageway, there is a body with garish colorful clothes. It's asleep, unconscious, or dead. Colorful hat with feathers. Loose sleeves with stripes. Harp. It's [[Keren]] (from Phandalin). He's alive but heavily injured. There are bite marks on him. He's breathing, but his breathing is shallow. He looks beaten and dehydrated. I heal Keren. He is a [[The Harpers|Harper]] agent who was sent here to investigate Cymril's death and see what happened to Ka'ira and Maestro. He knows she was supposed to meet up with Kelsier on that night. He says that Phandalin is heavily reinforced by mercenaries. [[Sildar]] asked for help against the dragon as a member of [[The Lords' Alliance]]. The closest member of that alliance was [[Neverember]], so he sent his army to help defend. We caught up Keren on what's been going on in Neverwinter and on demons. He hasn't seen demons on the road. Give him back Cymril's pin. But only after insight checking him. Diplomacy DC13 Truename 25 succeeded - Keren [[Reona]] is a Harper agent! Cyriac is not a Harper Agent. Reona was Cymril's confidant. It hit Reona hard when Cymril died. Keren says the craftsmanship of the Asmodeus is poor. He doesn't think this dagger has a story behind it. Keren was kept underwater in a sack and he was able to stay conscious long enough to cut himself free. They put prisoners in underwater sacs with roots or vines going into them - at least the ones that aren't worthy to be turned into foulspawn. The [[Wretches|Foulspawnlings]] are kept in caves or just out in the open.
