# 81_20210703 Goodbye Gloomtoes
## Session Summary
After the death of the Foulspawn Monstrosity, the creatures of the Twisted Fane do not stop approaching and we realize it's because of the crystal. We fight off a Grue, Carrion Crawlers, and see Fire Bats coming before I destroy the crystal for good. As soon as the crystal is destroyed, the aberrations seem to stop being attracted to the crystal and Gloomtoes exclaims that we've saved "it". "It" turns out to be a gigantic earth elemental whose body had been ravaged by the crystal that was placed at its heart. We race to get out of there in time, snapping Gloomtoes out of it, and we make it out in time to see the elemental reform its body-- but not its mind. Gloomtoes, who is able to talk to it, says that it is almost childlike and needs something to guide it, and he thinks he is the best person to do it. We tearfully agree, and say goodbye to him, but not forever. The earth elemental leaves one of its rock-like fingers with Maestro. To everyone's surprise, it seems to be able to follow Maestro wherever he goes, rolling around and even up cliffs!
We all return to the Sanctum Empirica, including the 6 civilians (of which a tired but smiling Reona is one), and then Keren takes us to the Castle Never teleportation spire. ^summary

## Log
After we kill the [[Foulspawn Monstrositry]], the vines at our feet begin to wither and we feel some trembling in the ground. Wretches have managed to tunnel into the walls. The crystal is still sparkling. It has shown some interaction with Ka'ira's demonic appendages and Snowflake's metallic form.
Gloomtoes says "It is losing!"

10 Ka'ira
Round 1
- Standard: Sacred Flame the crystal: 22 damage
- Minor: Sustain Moment of Glory
The [[Grue Foulspawn|Grue]] moves 4. It has no lips, but we see its teeth in a grisly smile. It has sharp teeth. Aura starts at 3. It floats, so ignores difficult terrain.
Mind Worm has a large range -- range 10?
Resist 10 to lightning.
Snowflake's Will is <20.
Round 2
- Standard: Healing Word Snowflake
- Minor: Sustain Moment of Glory
Aura: 6 because Maestro hit it.
Teleports 2.
3 [[Carrion Crawler]]s appear! They are normally skittish and careful, but this time they're bravely coming towards us as if they have advantage.
Keren attacks the crystal, which is looking like it will be destroyed soon. The lightning has not changed much.
Whispers of madness is of a realm beyond space and time, a realm of infinite order and madness. "Far Realm" or "Realm Beyond", where shapes don't correspond to the size of the body; they correspond to the size of your mind.
17 will hits Maestro with a penalty
17 will hits Snowflake
29 for Ka'ira (crit)
29 for Xio
not Gloomtoes
Instead of taking a crit or failing a saving throw, you can choose an important magical item to take the hit instead.
Round 3
- Move away
- Standard: Healing Word
- Minor: Sustain Moment of Glory
Eraithe does 27 damage to it and his sword becomes charged with lightning.
Carrion Crawlers attack with tentacles
6 Fire Bats start coming from the sky. They'll be here in 2 rounds but they're not here yet.
Keren uses Victim of the Feywild to teleport Snowflake and Ka'ira to the crystal.
Round 4
- Standard: Fire Burst on crystal: 36 fire damage, which destroys it.
- Crystal shatters and starts melting and falls into many pieces. Where the crystal was, there is now a hole where the lightning was coming out of the ground and through the crystal.
- Ka'ira and Snowflake feel that they are tugging at their bodies. Eraithe is unaffected. Snowflake changes form and becomes a blue, dragon-like thing that morphs into something indeterminate. Ka'ira feels that her body is rearranging itself but maintains her integrity.
- Ka'ira's demonic appendages are wrapped in lightning, morph into dretches that sprout blue wings, and then fly off. They don't have the stink that dretches normally have.
- Ka'ira chooses to let her body change.
- White fluid starts to rise from between the stones. The ground rumbles and begins to loose solidity. It used to be stone, but now it feels like the stone is floating on liquid.
- The Carrion Crawler and the Grue seem to be stuck to the floor.
- Minor: Sustain Moment of Glory
The Fire Bats have slowed down and are starting to disperse.
I Charm Gloomtoes with his truename to snap him out of it and leave with us. Otherwise he was just standing there, unresponsive.
We see the Twisted Fane being broken and its former inhabitants are swallowed up with it. It's changing into a lying gigantic humanoid form. Gloomtoes says "The screams have stopped. We've done a good thing here. I don't know what it is, but it called me here even before I came to Neverwinter."
The thing stands up. It looks like it's made of stone. There are still vines in it, but they're no longer holding it up/down. There is a scar on its body where the crystal once was. It has several wounds on its body. It starts to sit up. It's made of stone and has holes where eyes should be. It forms the semblance of a face.
Maestro and Gloomtoes just feel an expression of gratitude. It passes over them like rain. Gloomtoes starts conversing with it: "I don't understand.... Why not?... Oh, you need us? For what exactly? ... How long does this take?... Let me ask the others."
It is as big as a quarter of the chasm.
Gloomtoes: "I think it needs our help some more. It had a mind, but it's scrambled, as if he had lost its mind. He needs someone to guide it, to talk for it. It's been hurt and tortured for a long time."
2 Grells, wretches
Grue is dead.
Maestro feels that the giant is clingy and needy.
Gloomtoes said that he joined the Sons to stay in Neverwinter, but it was just a side-hustle. He has no family to return to-- he has a troubled past with them because of what he can do and he's made his peace with that part of his life.
The giant takes Gloomtoes into its chest. Gloomtoes throws the rope to us. Maestro gives him the robe of many things and the drawing Maestro made. We say goodbye.
The giant pulls of one of its rock-fingers and throws it to the side of Maestro-- it's a 10/20 pound rock. It walks into the side of the chasm as if it's air.
I send a message to Gloomtoes to say thank you and goodbye, and that we will have wine for him to drink when he wants to come back. He sends me back using his own psionic power! He says that maybe when Hill comes back, he'll share it with Hill.
The rock begins to move. Maestro thinks it's actually vulnerable to psychic, but it's the only way it can communicate. The rock won't fit in any bag and requires two hands to carry it.
The area where the crystal was is a hole in the ground where lightning is gushing out, like a reverse waterfall. But the lightning is no longer being redirected by the crystals.
We go back to the Sanctum Empirica. With all of us, including the 6 civilians, it's a bit tight.
