# 86_20210731 Sympathy for the Spider %%[Video](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mlt-TJliMJA)%% ## Session Summary Ka'ira's dretches were released upon Ka'ira being bloodied, but they were quickly taken care of. The lightning storm began to move closer to Neverwinter, causing Snowflake to fall prone and convulse in the middle of battle as lightning began to strike people who were out in the open. The Ice Phase Spider teleported to the building where Keren was, bringing Maestro along with it. Xio convinced a Neverwintan family to let her take cover in their house, sparing herself from most of the damage while managing to still target the spider from behind total cover, eventually dealing the killing blow with her magic missiles. After everyone took cover in the house from the lightning storm that was increasing in intensity, we heard Thraid calling out to Snowflake, asking Snowflake to resist it. When Snowflake responded that she couldn't, Thraid asked her to leave and go to "the last place she felt free". Snowflake left, taking the storm with her, and we went outside to discover an unconscious Thraid lying next to the body of the Ice Phase Spider. ^summary ## Recap of last session ![[85_20210717 Hunting the Ice Phase Spider#^summary]] --- ## Log 10am. 5 x 5 x 13: 13-diameter radius for the spider. Ka'ira's dretches are released because she's bloodied! Aura 5 around her of demons that attack everything around her. - Everyone in 5 is dazed from the stench - When starting within 5 of Ka'ira, creatures attack. - There are 4 dretches. [[Ice Phase Spider]] has a confusing bite; the [[Phase Spiderlings]] have a dazing bite Ka'ira does a Lay on Hands on herself Round 6: - Standard: Thunderwave on spiderling - Attack: 1d20+7+5 - Hit: 1d6+4+5 - Minor: Sustain Moment of Glory - Move towards Ka'ira and demons. I'm now about 18 squares away Keren deals damage to one of the spiderlings. At the end of the round, the lightning that is gathering in the sky begins to crackle and hits something nearby. Ka'ira, Maestro, and Eraithe see it hit a stone house. There are shouts, but nobody seems to have been hurt by it. Snowflake turns a shade of blue and looks sick. She looks like she's fighting something internally. Lightning is playing across her entire form. Maestro hits the spider. It has DR 4 right now. The spider teleported itself to where Keren is, bringing Maestro with it. Spiderlings teleport out. Nobody sees where they went. Ka'ira kills all but one of her dretches. When they are killed, they enter her again. Reflex: 26 Round 7: - Standard: Wand of Swarming Force: Cloud of Daggers - Resonant: Sympathy (target without LOS) - Attack: 1d20+7+5 - Hit: 1d6+4+5(+2); 10+5 force damage on its turn - Minor: Sustain Moment of Glory - Move halfway between melee and Maestro/spider Eraithe hits the one remaining dretch and kills it. It enters Ka'ira's body. At the end of this round, lightning strikes Eraithe. There's a big flash of bright light that covers Eraithe like a spotlight. We all see the flash. Afterwards, he is standing there with his sword glowing blue, full of lightning. He doesn't seem to have been harmed. On the contrary: he's even healed a bit. Snowflake falls on the ground and starts convulsing. On Maestro's turn, his [[Maestro's pet rock|pet rock]] covers Maestro's fist just before he hits. It gives him a +2 to hit. Maestro realizes he can also channel his power through his fist, instead of just his handaxe. Maestro hits it and pushes it off the roof. It's prone. He also heals Snowflake. No aura. It bites me! I am confused, save ends. Round 8: - I couldn't do anything due to confusion, and I am unable to sustain moment of glory either. :( Keren teleports to another rooftop. Impelling force: Charisma vs Fortitude. However, that's a natural 1. He just spends his minor action to pick up his harp. Ka'ira charges to the spider and hits it, healing some damage herself. Eraithe, who has just gotten hit by lightning, calls out to everyone that Snowflake is in trouble and that we might be danger. Everyone takes 6 damage from lightning strikes. Maestro moves the spider away by 1 square, but the spider still has reach. Snowflake is still unable to do anything as she is convulsing on the ground. Spider's turn. It teleports to hit me. It rolls a natural 1 to hit me! Its exoskeleton is starting to ice over again. Radiant damage immunity was only due to the ice. It has disappeared. Round 9: - Standard: Thunderwave on Ice Phase Spider - Resonant: Puppetry (falls prone or moves 10') - Attack: 1d20+7+5 vs Fortitude - Minor: Healing word on myself - Yell: Take cover from Snowflake! - Move away. I moved to inside a home, and manage to convince its inhabitants to let me in! Ka'ira takes damage from Snowflake. She charges to the spider and tries to hit it, but misses. 10 damage. Ka'ira leaves its range and it does an opportunity attack. It deals Ka'ira 21 damage and makes her confused. She charges and hits it. It's still up, but it's misting. Round 10: - Standard: Force Wand - Magic Missiles - Resonant: Sympathy - ignore total cover - Attack: auto hit - Hit: 2+4+6=12 force - Minor: Knack for Success to convince the family to let my friends in. The whole party comes in to the house I'm in to take cover. Ka'ira starts taking off her armor (for 10 minutes). We hear Thraid shouting something outside. She is imploring Snowflake. A lightning strike hits, and we hear something flying. There is a constant crackle of electricity. It hits the house, but we're safe... so far. We hear [[Thraid]] saying, "This is the thing that I've been fearing every since we've been together. Resist it. Try to throw off your inner nature. We have grown beyond this. Don't let this stop everything that we've done and everything that we've reached." Snowflake, in a deeper voice: "I can't. It's coming out of me." Thraid: "But can't you see--" (she gets hit by lightning) "Can't you see the city? You're tearing the city apart." Snowflake: "I can't! It's too strong!" Thraid: "Then you must leave. For the sake of this city. I will go where you first felt safe and free. I will meet you there." Snowflake alights and begins to fly away. The lightning goes with her. [[Amon]] (male) and [[Hestia]] (female) with three kids. They are the ones that gave us shelter. I give them 1 gp in Bahamut coins. We go outside, where Ka'ira has done Lay on Hands on Thraid, taking her back to consciousness. She has survived, but was unconscious until she was healed. The Ice Phase Spider lies dead and frozen in ice.
