# 87_20210814 Harvesting the Spider ## Session Summary Faced with the carcass of a creature that _should_ be alien to him but isn't, Maestro carves up the body of the Ice Phase Spider with the skill of someone who's done this many times. He is able to harvest its ice-cold heart, the tips of its legs, and its poison sac. Thraid, finally returned after a long time away, tells us that Snowflake appears to be turning into one of the true dragons, although that shouldn't be possible. She says Snowflake has returned to where she hatched. She also told us about the stories of true dragons and titans. Additionally, Thraid wants to investigate the water problem. Xio, Maestro, and Eraithe head back to the castle with the spider's head, to use as proof that we killed the spider, and chopped up parts of its body to feed to the ettercaps. Meanwhile, Ka'ira stays behind to cut up souvenirs of the spider for Neverwintans. We meet back up in the Castle, where we discuss plans for the next day involving going to Moonstone Mask in disguise. ^summary ## Recap of last session ![[86_20210731 Sympathy for the Spider#^summary]] --- ## Log Time: 12:00 During the height of the lightning storm, [[Syrinx]] glowed with lightning-- something that hadn't happened before. Maestro weirdly has knowledge of caring for these animals. He's displayed a kinship with the Ice Phase Spider for a while now. I help him loot the corpse, but it will take 4 hours. Thraid asks what happened to Snowflake, and we tell her about how Snowflake got hit by the blue lightning in the Chasm. She says that Snowflake has flown to where she hatched. Thraid and Snowflake can't hurt each other with their powers. Maestro asked her what she seemed to know about Snowflake, but Thraid brushed it off. "I just said that." I insight checked her, and she seemed afraid of something for a second and then straightens up, like she's thinking something can't be true. ([[True Dragons vs Titans]]) Thraid said that a long time ago, dragons fought titans. As they moved, mountains were formed and oceans were created. They were "true dragons". The titans overpowered them until only one true dragon left, and that dragon's name was "Io". Thraid's mother said that Io was different from other dragons, because it could think. It made choices and could speak. All the other dragons couldn't. The dragons were like forces of nature. Before dragons, there were no earthquakes, typhoons, or blizzards. When the true dragons came and fought, they changed the world they stepped on. But Io was different. He was finally slain by the combined might of the titans. Because the world was safe enough for them to start to grow, people flourished and created civilizations. The dragons we call Bahamut and Tiamat could think. Io was neutral, but Tiamat became evil and Bahamut became good. Bahamut and Tiamat were afraid of the titans, and hid. Between the two of them, they spawned the draconic varieties we see today. Snowflake seems to be reverting to a true dragon from stories. True dragons are partially flesh and partially their element. Nico thinks golems were made to fight something at some time, but none of us can understand what he means. There are many parts of the spider that we can harvest: - common: hide, for armor - common: fangs, for edged weapons or a wand - uncommon: poison in poison sac - causes confusion, for a potion or an item - uncommon: tips of it legs, and it provides a way to walk on webs or on walls like a spider - rare: heart radiating intense cold, for a primal power source for a magical item that provides the cold keyword Magical item: needs power source and a base material. Maestro gets Level 9 items: - icy heart: rare, ice, fey, spider - poison sac: uncommon, confusion - tips of spider legs: spider, wall climb, web sense You need 10 of these components to create a magical item, or you can combine one of those items with something you already have. 4 hours of harvest. Ka'ira gets a faction inspiration for trying to save Snowflake. I cast Tenser's and rolled 25. It can carry 1,000 pounds. We go back to the Castle. Things we've accomplished - We set free the elemental that was causing nightmares and stealing away people. - We killed the Ice Phase Spider. - (We solved the water problem.) Talking to Thraid: - Thraid doesn't know Zofaris Kez. Zofaris was around after Thraid had become one of the Nine. - Arcane sarcophagus: No - Sanctum Empirica being portable: No - Rally: Probably just talking about his accomplishments and future plans. - She has stayed safe and not arrested because people know she's part of the Nine and that she stands with Neverwinter. If Neverember did something to her, it wouldn't look good. - Neverember has been giving water from the iceberg, and some rich merchants have their own supplies. - What do we need for the coronation? - Crown - Ritual (which Thraid knows) - nobles to watch us - mercenary support - Neverwintans - [[Sabine]] is a stern taskmaster, but she is a woman of her word. If she has given her word to Neverember, it will be hard to use money to sway her. - Mercenaries, once hired, still get paid by Sabine regardless of how badly the job goes. Ka'ira cuts up body parts for Neverwintans. Keren says: - Some people have come in from the north. They were afraid because they were chased by normal cats that had fire in their eyes. They were thankfully protected by armed guards as they came into Neverwinter. A caravan that came here from the north reported that they were attacked. - There's a mad mountain man that claims that rocks have started to move and fall weirdly. - The seas rougher, animals are acquiring fire. The rally is usually held in the morning. It's now 18:00. Sabine has 3 lieutenants. One of them is [[Sarthos]]. Sabine has a trio of bodyguards ([[Force Chimera]]). For a magical item, you can replace one of the components with residuum. Bahamut is chaotic good. ## Plan for next session - Go to [[Mordai Vell]] and find out why he's shifted allegiances to Neverember. What's Neverember giving him? - Go to the [[Moonstone Mask]] in disguise and find out if Sabine is there, and figure out how mercenaries feel about Sabine and Sarthos. If we see Sabine, I will send Invidoo to spy on her. - Interrogate [[Gaius]].
